Title: Intercooler, Radiator and Oil cooler
Post by: Archbish on September 24, 2007, 08:47:08 PM
So...  I\'m looking to get an IC, Rad and Oil cooler for the S3 project.  Obviously I\'d LOVE a PWR setup, but the delivery costs make it somewhat untenable.  Sooooo, does anyone know of a company that could make remarkably similar items so I can get the whole lot from one place rather than getting them seperately?

I got an uprated rad from a company in hong kong, seems to be ok. I think they would be able to do the IC and the rad. Not sure just how many companies make 1st gen coolers.

As for the oil cooler you need to source a TII one. The things are huge compared to the after market coolers. Alot of people on Rx7club will only use them because they have a built in thermostat too.

Thanks Shaun - What I\'m looking to do is have an intercooler at the front, with the oilcooler underneath, with a full size Rad behind.  So the TII cooler should be OK, but I\'m not sure the stock shaped rad would be OK, and I need to find the cooler to go on top...

As shaun says, i would definately get a good used TII oil cooler.  Some of the aftermarket ones wont take the high oil pressure of the Rotary.

If you get both the i/c and rad custom made you will be looking at big money 600 and up at a guess.  I would see whats out there and make it fit, but thats me, i\'m tight!

I picked a near new cossie ali rad 2 inches thick with 2 new electric fans on it for £70 on ebay.

But I don\'t know what price to sell it for though?

Pete.

My rad cost £205 inc postage, they do intercoolers too. Its 3in thick and dimensions as gen 1&2.

Antnicuk - How’s the blue FB you bought off me going?

As for plans. It\'s booked in at RX motors for a rebuild and half bridge port, fitting my noz kit and if I sell my front mount. I will be replacing it with a 4 row ready for when I get my new turbo.
Plus in the future TII brakes and a LSD.

Just kidding bish....   :Ladys-man

i have seen this set up, its a very nice set up for a mildly modded TII set up.    I would have thought that this would suit your project very well Bish.

Unfortunatly too many projects meant that the Blue 1st Gen had to go but i did get some use out of it. Was an excellent little car.  :cheers

Whay have an intercooler at all?  Water injection cools the charge even more with out the lag & rotaries aren\'t that torqie.  Whay ad to the problem?

Think of the distance the air has to travel before it gets to the engine.  My airfilter sits on the turbo inlet!  No lag & pulls hard from low down.

Probably cheaper too, but you do have to fill it up now & then.

With the size of turbo it would use alot of water ! Good for drag racing but surely you need a charge cooler or intercooler for using it for longer durations ?

Mine\'s a road car with a low comp ported 12AT running a TII turbo & microtec ECU.

Yeah, if I do a hundred miles on a run I may top up the header bottle, but its not too much of a concern.

I reckon I have nearly 250rwhp (soon to be confirmed on a dyno hopefully) & its very drivable with this set up.

I was going for an intercooler but Tim talked me out of it & I\'m glad he did.

Well, I\'m trying to do all this myself, and I\'m well aware of my technical shortcomings...  So the accepted method of FMIC in a TII conversion for an S3 RX-7, I\'ll be going there.

Its been sold off for scrap probably.  I think they are making me a whole new car from scratch, out of gold, with tiny tiny pixie tools & magic spanners.
Not expecting to see it this side of 2008
