Title: heat light flashing
Post by: jsrx7 on September 24, 2007, 10:49:16 AM
Hi all,

Having heard lots of stories about engines going bang, my car has got me a little worried recently. Since the traffic got a lot worse, with the damn kids going back to school!, I have started to see the odd flash from the heat light in bad traffic. It only does this once or twice in about an hour drive and its always in the worst parts of traffic. The light instantly disappears once its flashed. Has anyone experienced something similar? Is this something to worry about?

Thanks,

Jon.

only really an issue if on boost
the sensors are quite old and can pick up other engine noise as well
if car is modded it will register more noise internally on a ported engine as well
if doing it idle or slow crawl then not a problem as detonation wldnt be occuring..if car is standard then cat might be blocked causing it to overheat

thanks for that, good to know its probly nothing too bad. By the way the mods are cat back exhaust, air filter, ecu, AFC. So even if this is not a serious issue is it something which could damage the car over time if its overheating everyday in traffic? Im thinking about just driving it at weekend.
