Title: Potholes!
Post by: Alison on September 23, 2007, 07:57:14 PM
:reallymad  Argh!! hit one today, and looks like the passenger side rear wheel has buckled!! Looking for new wheels anyway, but it looks like we\'ll be buying some sooner than we thought! :(

If anyone\'s hiding away a random standard wheel that they want to sell me for the time being that\'d be great lol.

Take photo\'s of your damaged wheel and the pot hole and write to the Highways Authority responsible to claim compansation for the damage. They should hopefully reimburse you to cover the cost of a new wheel.

The only reason I say this is a friend of mine hit a pot hole in his BMW 525 and put a nice \'V\' in his alloy. He put in a claim to the local council who passed the buck to a utility company who passed the buck to one of their contractors (who were responsible for not properly reinstating the road) who eventually coughed up a cheque to cover the cost of a new wheel and tyre...£300+ !!

No it\'s not my fella! It\'s always meeee!! I might give it a go at claiming something back then, although a couple of friends have tried and failed - council said somethig like "you should have avoided it".  But I suppose there\'s nothing to lose is there... Might be ordering some tasty new wheels today though!!

If they do say "You should have avoided it" then you have them by the borrocks!!! They\'ve admitted that their isn\'t up to standards are is dangerous to motorists.

100% go and make a claim and just hope they come back with something like that, if they do see a solicitor to draft a letter to take them to court and watch them cough up ;)

I\'ve heard of a fair few cases of this and it being proven and them getting a payout, the only way out for the council is if they patch up that bit of road before you can get pictures.
