Title: Buying a non runner
Post by: bryce592 on September 22, 2007, 08:12:56 PM
Evening everyone, I am currently looking to buy a non-runner rex, it is a 1994 model.

The car has been sitting in a garage for 2 years, the owner does not know whats wrong with it, although he said his mechanic thought it had coolant problems, but even he wasn\'t sure as he has never worked with rotaries.

Just wanted to know how much I should pay for it (the car has no previous history)?

Also I want to strip down the engine myself and rebuild it :2Confused    Is there a guide that will tell me step by step on the rebuild process, taken into account I have never had a rotary before.

I am very keen to do the work on the car myself to see what these cars are all about, just need some guidance to start off, so your help in this matter is appreciated.

Thanks

You may well find that ppl who live near to you are more than willing to help and advise.

Could I suggest you narrow your location down a bit, it may help your quesr.

Good Luck

John

Problem sorted?! That quick. nice one!
What was it?!

EDIT: Or did you mean you edited your location ?! lol

Also, can I just ask, where did you get it from, if you dont mind me asking.. As I was speaking to a chap from up North Shields way recently with a 94 RX, that had sat around for a couple of yrs, which he assumed was coolant probs!

Thanks for that, surely it cant be that easy :Nono! .  How hard is it to disconnect all the hoses ?  reading through some of the threads that looks like quite a task.  Can you not label each hose with a number and then connect to the same ones when putting the engine back in.

Also, where is the best place to buy rebuild kits/parts, is there anything in the engine that will require a specialist to assemble ?

What I was really looking for was a guide with what tools and parts are required and complete steps from start to finish.  I know I am asking for it :Laugh

Looking forward to more replies, thanks for the help guys.

These are apparantly good for the rebuild kits.
http://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/customer/home.php

I was told to head on over to RX7club.com and PM someone by the name of Kathy, and apparantly they\'ll sort you out with anything to do with above site.

Also was told that //www.rhdjapan.com is quite good for parts.

Just buy the rebuild DVD set mate! I think that rotaryart (advert at top of page) sell it. It literally talks you through every step of stripping the engine down, checking everything & re-assembling it.
As for parts i\'ve always stuck with genuine mazda stuff as i think alot of people & most the engine builders do!
RXmotors web site lists all the parts along with prices, very reasonable! i always use them.
Just ring tim with what you need and he\'ll mail it to you!

dependant on spec, between £1.5k and £2.5k?? Maybe slightly more for higher spec, more modified?
