Title: leaky coilover
Post by: FD3SNuttah on September 22, 2007, 07:57:14 PM
noticed while changing my brakes this morning that i have a leaky shocker - it isnt too bad at the minute but i dont think its got long to go before it runs outta oil.

Ive got some GAB coilovers anyone know if they can be refurbed? if so who do you take them to? is it going to cost me loads?

Is this unchartered territory? has no on etried to rebuild or found out about rebuilding coilovers?

providing you have the right size seals does it matter about what make suspension is? or does it not work like that? can anyone educate me, or give me some options, 600 quid is still too dear at the minute!!

Well I had my Ohlins rebuilt, I think they had to make a couple of the seals so it must be possible, but then they only deal with Ohlins shockers (normally for the BSB bikes) so not sure if they\'d look at something else...

...I\'ll ask them and see if they\'s look at some GAB shocks.

Try Maxton Suspension - they do mainly bikes/sidecars but rebuilding a car coilover will be a piece of p*ss for them, seeing as they make their own stuff in house :)

It was a firm called K-Tec, normally do motorbike Ohlins and I think pretty much only for the BSB but I\'m sure they\'d be happy to do some more. Mine were even Jap versions hence why they needed to make up a couple of the seals, but got them all done and even rechromed a piston so all in all very cool.

I\'ll check if they\'re happy for some more car work and let you know the details :D

My car\'s just failed it\'s MOT with a leaky coilover too, among other things. Would be very grateful if you guys can provide any info on repairing/rebuilding these. I have Mazdaspeed coilovers on mine.

Cheers!

Right ho all, you can try K-Tech (http://www.k-tech.uk.com/) but I\'ve just had a word with "da man" there and he\'ll happily look at Ohlins, but if it\'s something else he may have to pass it on.

So if it\'s "some random Japanese" coilover you may struggle sadly.

Rixio, I\'ve tried to PM you but you\'re full up dude! Let me know and I\'ll send over some more details for ya Ohlins.
