Title: Flat Rear Tyre
Post by: grinder on February 11, 2004, 09:33:38 AM
heres the story

car pulls to the left , so went to get the tracking sorted - thats OK - went to get the wheels balanced ( it may help !! ) - got that done but found a nail in the back tyre

so got that fixed !

this was 3 weeks ago

used the car on sunday for a quick spin - and it was fine - washed the car and moved it back up the drive - no probs

came to the car on monday night to go to the meet - jumps in - gets to top of street and car feels REALLY funny - jumps out - back trye is flat as a pancake

drives home hoping the tyre doesnt pop of the rim , gets it onto the drive - blows the trye up - seems ok - but i dont trust it

take wheel off and puts spare on ( what a joke they are ! )

tyre seems ok - so gets a spare baby bath with water in it - dumps trye in - and its leaking air from where the trye meets the alloy

SO

1 - has the tyre been fitted badly ?
2 - why was it fine on sunday and not monday
3 - the valve cap was still on - so i cant see kids letting it down ( and its parked behind 2 other cars )
4 - tuesday morning - trye still inflated
5 - tuesday night - tyre is still inflated ( but seems a good idea to clean it whist its off the car !
6 - it just seems to be going REALLY REALLY slowly

do you think it was a fluke that it went down ? , why should it leak from around the rim - some one mentioned oxydisation ( spelling ) of the rim - but not sure what that means

if you have any ideas it would be a great help as im not sure the garage will play ball as its taken 3 weeks to go down

Thanks

stu

Some tyres sometimes take a bit of time to seal properly bead to rim.

I\'m sure if you take it back and explain the circumstances, they will take the tyre off, examine the tyre bead and the wheel rim.

Could be that just taking the tyre off and on again cures the problem :)
