My understanding was Whifbitz said everthing is fine?!
Aren\'t u currently trying to sell it?

It does sound as if its only firing on one rotor, if it sounds like a tractor..

yeah sounds like one of the rotors gone dude

Sounds like it\'s running on one rotor. What was the exact sequence of events when it all went wrong? Was it under boost, did it make any funny noises etc?

Afraid it sounds as if the car needs a rebuild.

I wouldn\'t start throwing around accusations about a trader/specialist tbh, as they know they\'re stuff and have a good reputaion to uphold, so I doubt very much they would \'sabotage\' your car....

thats very  true what you say, i shouldnt blame them, but it appears to be odd..

from reading previous threads, and for sale ads on ebay and Pistonheads, it seems as if your car has \'not really played ball\' for a while now? Even the vids on youtube, car doesn\'t sound too healthy either..
and all these were well before Whifbitz looked at the car...

Could be as simple as one of the plugs isn\'t sealing properly, and then you\'ll get lack of compression. Would make sense as the plugs get pulled to do a comp test. Pull them out, check the holes for fragments or carbon, and check the washers on the plugs. refit them, and try again.

Doesn\'t mean anything. Likelihood is a tip has cracked/chipped/broken. You\'ll miss no water or oil under those circumstances.

The video you posted on youtube. It looks like your racing the car from cold. Not good on any car let alone this car.

I feel for ya bud, but I\'ve already got 2! Mine has been a complete hightmare, but it\'s a good feeling when it all comes together. You\'ll probably need to de-flood her. There are instructions in the stickies section I think, but shout of you need any further help.
My advice is to put the battery on charge overnight, grab a few beers, and come back to it tomorrow with a fresh head. If the plugs were loose then there\'s probably nothing seriously wrong with her :D There are loads of people here to help, so don\'t loose heart just yet! Let us know how it goes dude.

It sounds like you are left with two options:-

1) Pay for a diagnosis at a Rotary specialist.
2) Be prepared to take a big hit on its value and sell it as a non-runner.

ED,

Which area of London are you in?  It may be that I can pop over one evening next week and take a look for you, at least get you pointed in the right direction.

yep if the plugs were very loose then you didnt have any compression and like Ian says you have now probably flooded the engine.
Take the plugs out overnight , dry them, put the battery on charge and try tomorrow

If the engine cut out you would lose the brake servo and it would feel like you had no brakes.
Title: is my engine blown?
Post by: nikp on September 21, 2007, 01:50:24 PM
...but you would still have brakes. But would have to put a lot of force into them.

Ed, Did you not have a compression test done recently?
Title: is my engine blown?
Post by: ianelvar on September 21, 2007, 02:42:47 PM
Ed, I\'m sure it\'s just going to be because the plugs are loose. No engine works well with loose plugs, rotary or piston. The tractor effect will be rough running because the air in the chambers is leaking out round the loose plugs, and she won\'t fire properly then.
I\'ve driven an FD being towed, so I know what it\'s like without the brake assitance from the engine. You need to be He-Man to get the damn thing to stop - it\'s worse than my land rover with no assistance and drum brakes. I\'m not kidding, either!

Just as an aside about the breaks, shouldn\'t the servo hold a vacuum for at least 1 more application of the breaks? Or maybe a couple?

Good point. There is a one-way valve that\'s supposed to hold it. I don\'t remember it helping that much though...

To unflood remove the plugs and fuel pump relay. Crank the car over to get as much fuel as possible out of the rotors this will make a mess of your engine bay, refit the relay. Put the battery on charge and walk away until the morning. In the mean time dry the plugs a blow torch gas ring etc will assist, or better yet get a new set. In the morning put a little ATF (power steering) oil in each rotor housing turn the car over by hand a third of a turn add a little more turn once more a third of a turn and repeat with the oil. Refit the plugs and if possible use a set of jump leads in addition to the fully charged battery for starting power. When it starts you will get clouds of smoke and crap out of the tail pipes dont worry about this just keep it running until it all gets up to temp and clears up.

I think you should be very careful with your words here mate. We didn\'t say the car was fine at all, the complete opposite, we refused to work on it as the car was in such a mess and you didn\'t want to spend that sort of money getting it all up to scratch, needed a lot of work to put right. We hardly touched the car, just filled it up with coolant as it was driven here completely empty and overheating badly, as everyone knows, rotary\'s do not like getting hot.....

Regards
Paul

Kevin

Removing the fuel pump relay will NOT stop the fuel pumping on an FD.
