Title: Would anyone be able to help?
Post by: thetera on September 20, 2007, 11:34:50 AM
Hi all,

I\'ve been trying to decide between an RX-7 and a R32 GTR, I\'m pretty set on the Rx now :Giggle  and was wondering if anyone would be able to help me look over a car?

Its the one EDZAIR was selling, apparently he\'s taken it to whifbitz and it checked out fine - I\'d like to be doubly sure though so if anyone in North London or thereabouts would be willing to help there\'d be mucho beer etc in it
  :cheers

Cheers :D

Roy

LOL well that saves me the trip then :Giggle

Just got a mail back from him saying that whifbitz told him that all rx7s smoke on startup - news to me!!

Also I\'m told it needs a VIC check and V5 applied for - if its a UK car this wouldnt be neccessary :xconfused

Hmmm... just spoke to Whifbitz and they said he brought it in and they refused to work on it! Too much needed doing or something!

Did they suggest exactly what work needed doing at all?

no worries, my greek instincts are telling me to stay well away from this turk and his rx7 ;)

joking aside, I think its a total p*sstake that he told me they checked it over and its all fine, engine, turbos and ecu work perfect etc :flamed

Oh well, better keep looking I guess :Giggle

Jit, main criteria is that its a 93 or 92 car as I want to insure it on a classic policy (I\'ll be doing 5-6K miles a year MAX), no rust to body or chassis, and a healthy engine

If its got decent suspension (lets face it the original shocks would have had it by now!) a PFC and some tasty 17s on that would be a bonus - whats the spec of the one you know about?

I think the mod team should delete his ad in view of this. That and the fact that it looks ****ing nasty.

Agree with this mate!
Didn\'t someone get a suspension from here for taking the p*** on his for sale thread?
I don\'t think he should be allowed to sell his car on here as it all seems a bit fishy??
UK car, but needs a V5
VIC check?
Lies about it being checked over by someone?
Last thing we need is someone selling a dodgy nail on here & giving the club a bad name! Not to mention the RX7 in general!

How much you looking at paying and what colour preferance do you have?? I love finding a bargain for someone ;-)

Plus what sort of power do you want?

Anywhere from 4-6k really depending on spec, I don\'t have a colour preference (except I\'d rather it wasn\'t red lol)

The only firm pre-requisite is that its a 1992 or 1993 car so I can insure it on a classic policy :D

VIC= Vechicle Identity Check.  This is ONLY required if a car has been written off and repaired.  This is why there is no log book.  The check does not check standard of repair.  Just looks at the Cars ID and makes sure it is the same car as was damaged...stops theives Ringing cars....

My mate has a nice black FD for sale, rebuilt, Apexi, 18"alloys, Red leather etc.......U can get a classic car policy if the car is 10 years or older....so u can get upto a 97 and still be OK...ring me for more info if u need..Thanks 07929 847 055

Thanks for all the replies guys, I\'m going to start arranging viewings this weekend :D

Rob, like the car but if I was going to spend 7k I\'d be picky about colour - red really doesn\'t do anything for me (I have a YELLOW Ducati to give an example :D )

Paul, I love the look of the first one - at that price I could put the extra money into an ISA for when a rebuild is needed. Problem is its all the way in Glasgow, and I\'d ideally want to take it to a specialist for an inspection before buying :( Are there any RX garages in Scotland?
Title: Would anyone be able to help?
Post by: Paul1982 on September 21, 2007, 11:38:21 AM
No rx garages up there that i know but there are a few members who seem to have there head screwed on - maybe you can get one of them to have a look at the car for you :-)
Title: Would anyone be able to help?
Post by: Paul1982 on September 21, 2007, 11:43:22 AM
My problem with the first one is that its says nothing about a new ecu or Power FC - with the exhaust system and induction kits etc its could course problems with wear - Plus side is, its just had a MOT and these things are hard work to pass (as i\'m finding out) because of emissions. Its must have good compression (if it legally passed) to pass in the first place so it might be a strong block. But it in a good looking motor - i have black and i love it hehe

I\'m starting to like the gun metal one too - the veilside bumper I usually hate seems to look ok in that colour :D

That gun metal one looks the business - Rare colour and beautiful kit on it. I think you\'d get that for £4500 and that would be a great price!

Autotrader says its only 25 miles from me so I could easily go see it over the weekend - depending on where it is I\'ll take it to Perfect Touch to get it checked out ;)
