Alright Guys
Got a Commander a Few weeks ago only just got round to installing it.
so took the Rex out for about an hour an the water temp was around 86-88 never went over does this seem about right ??
my Rex is standard apart from Apexi ecu and back box !
Yep thats about right nothing wrong there. If your stuck in traffic temps will rise to 96 or so fans cut in at 94 and will slowly come back down.
:)
mine sit at 82 except in slow trafic then rise to 95,fans kick in
Cool good to know :D
Mine always sits between 70 and 80, hardly ever over... due to having installed a Koyo performance aluminium radiator and a Sard cool running thermostat. Best mods I did. Before that I was seeing mid 80\'s during driving and mid 90\'s stuck in traffic... where fans kick in to cool back down.
Mid 80s on mine, 89 in traffic is most I\'ve seen until fans kick in.

Overcooling. Engine won\'t run at optimal performance. It\'s designed to run between mid 80\'s and mid 90\'s.
I\'ll take it out at lunch and double check I have that right...
In summer on motorway, 84. In summer traffic jam, upto 94 then fans kick in. After engine is switched off upto 105 but this rapidly comes down when running again.
Yeah as I thought. Whilst driving, mine settles around the 75 degrees mark. In traffic rises to 80-85 degrees mark. May rise up to 90 degrees +, but would have to be sat still in traffic a while.
Wouldn\'t call this overcooling though. Or would you?
With overcooling does overfuelling come?
The standard mazda thermostat starts to open at 81 degrees C - this is for a reason. That reason being that an engine is designed to run at an optimum temperature, which means that the oil will be at the correct temp, and it will be at it\'s most efficient - for fuel and power. Get the temps wrong, and it all goes kaput.
To be honest, I\'ve never understood why someone would want to install a \'cool runnning thermostat\'. Are you having overheating problems? If not, why run it? And if so, then there is a problem elsewhere in the coolant system.
No, never had cooling issues. To be honest the idea was to keep the set-up running as cool as possible without it running too cool. Like I said the thermostat is manufactured by Sard. I\'ve ran it for a few months now with the Koyo performance aluminium radiator in that set-up and no problems whatsoever, although maybe a little richer in fuel... but hard to say as I had all of my engine mods installed at the same time so this could be down to PFC, WGT mapping, etc.
I THINK the Sard starts to open at 75 degrees. So a little cooler. I always thought that the optimum operating temp of a rotary was 75-85 degrees. The fans are like an emergency feature so to speak.
I thought the hotter running of engines, 85 - 88 deg C was to lower emissions?
That\'s why running cooler is actually better for performance, but worse for emissions... \'Tis what I\'d heard but could well be wrong!
