Title: single turbo?
Post by: Boywhizzz on September 15, 2007, 01:19:06 PM
been having a few probs with my car and have found out the first turbo has gone. i\'m wanting to try and get my car up to about 400 to 500bhp. don\'t know whay sort of power you can get out of the twins? or you think it best to go single? any idea on what to put on? still want power throw the rev range and not just at top end.
Reason wanting more out of the car is because all my friends have evo\'s over 400hhp and say i should sell my rex and get a real car.......

need to show them not only evo\'s n skylines are fast.:spank

If you want that sort of power you need to go single. Depending on the type of driving that you do, and the sort of figures you are talking about here are a couple fo turbo recommendations.

GT35
GT35/40
T04S
T04R
T04Z
T51 (various models)

They are in order of which will create boost earlyier than the next.

Fish

PS. An FD is a real car, you just need to make sure the mods are the correct ones.

Comms weren\'t great, but be persistant.  I got a fantastic turbo at a great price, and they were even helpful with insurance value.

Think ballys spools at about 2500 & makes fill boost at about 3k...... but don\'t quote me on that!!!

Well if its like that i would be well happy bud. noticed that people seem to add injectors instead of just putting bigger injectors in. is there any reason for this?:flamed

Hi...

I have a question about the single turbo conversion...

At the moment, I have a massive turbo on my FD, a T45R... with 1200cc secondary injectors, 400 ltr/h fuel pump and a "R Magic" ECU mapped by Jo Bounds in Japan + HKS GCC coupled with HKS EVC...

I find the T45R turbo too big for my kind of driving... i would like to have a more "flexible" turbo such as a GT35R...

My question is: Do I need to remap the car completely if I just only change the turbo (swap the T45R for a GT35R)? Or will i just need to adjust the boost controller and GCC (as the turbo will be smaller)...?

If I\'m wrong could you tell me which would be the best solution...?

I thought it would be best to post on this thread as it is the initial subject.

Thanks a lots.:cheers

You\'ll have to have a complete remap I\'m afraid.

OK... Thanks a lot...

I\'ll have to think about this then... not easy to find someone who can tune the ECU I have, over here in France...

And slight problem, I don\'t know which software is used to map / remap the "Jo Bounds R-Magic ECU"...

If you cant keep a T04S spooled up on any strip or circuit...you aren\'t driving properly, it gives full boost from 3000 odd to the 8K redline.

T04S is a great turbo on several levels, cheap, reliable, cheap to rebuild.

In your shoes, I definately would not fit a smaller turbo.

GT30 is a pretty small turbo i think mate! T04S would be ideal for what you want!
Is your mate giving you advice familiar with RX7\'s?
I would imagine he is baseing his views on a piston engine! Rotarys provide alot more exhaust gas than piston engines and as such spool up turbo\'s quite abit quicker.
A small turbo that would be suitable for  lag free boost on something like a 200sx would probably be too small for an RX and you would "choke" it!

he\'s in to and done loads of cars eg skylines n evo ect but don\'t think he\'s had much to do with rex\'s. thats why i\'m asking on here just to make sure its the right turbo for me. i was thinking of a gt35r but he said was to big for my car.:cheers

GT35R is a PERFECT match for an FD3s, unported through to large street port.

i was looking for a gt35r and found this http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/gt35r%20kit.htm (http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/gt35r%20kit.htm) seems like a good price? was also looking at the apexi rx6 kit, both seem to have a good rep, but gt35r is cheaper.

If you have the right mods ie fueling then I would think you could map to 1.2 bar +, although this would not be ideal for longevity of the engine.

You would be very pleased boosting around at 0.8 bar, maybe with high setting of 1 bar.

Trust me.

A safe map at 1bar should be sufficent with a GT35 :wave

I think it was a case of warming the arch up and then moulding into place ? Tricky but supposed to be a doddle if you have the right equipment like :god

hi there i have a gt35/40r turbo and must say spool up time is pretty quick  am just waiting to put my rebuilt engine back in the car which is now got a street port and so will be able to give some sort of comparison between running a gt35 on stock ports and with a street port, also i changed the secondary inj to 1600cc which after mapping was fine alongside standard primaries but i suppose it all depends on the map.

hth and i dont have many probs with evo\'s skylines and impreza with the 421hp im making.:Thumbs-up
