Title: Doing the non-seq conversion.. help me lol
Post by: interloper393 on September 14, 2007, 12:16:01 AM
Right here goes im going to follow the first pic diagram for the non-sequencial conversion on ma 97 spec rx7, from what iv read it shouldnt be 2 bad and im hoping to remove everything i can, simplify everything, so when the day fer a rebuild comes its guna be alot easyer.. hoping to go single but until the right tubby comes along im going with this.. shud make the single conversion easyer anywho lol..

SOOooo.. tomorrow it begins.., iv removed alot already trying to find a boost leak with no joy..

Is there anything i cn do to make them less laggy or will they still boost at 1500rpm? heard mixed reactions on these..

:wave

Diagram 1 is the puppy i used, just keep the vac line from the purge control and you can re route the FPR vac line to the nip that faces towards the firewall ( its the only one ) down between the injectors.  Everything else is as shown.

are you okay for grinding / welding stuff up?

I happen to have a manifold that has mostly been converted, it only needs to be cleaned up all the welding and grinding has been done.

I also have the other bits but we never got around to finnishing that part of the conversion due to jims primary being shagged

Go to fds3.net, or FD3s.net, not sure which,it helped me no end. To be honest, once I\'d started the job I thought the whole conversion was a piece of ****, the metal piping you are talking about can be utilised,(part of it anyway) and all this is covered on the above website. The whole conversion cost me less that £40(thats FORTY not four hundred) and less than 40 hours. Its left the engine bay much cleaner and tidier and does the car go now!!!!! I might add that this is the only RX7 I have ever worked on and though I\'m still learning( aren\'t we all), so far I havn\'t found owt too difficult. Clive is a real helpful guy and I\'m sure that, if you are stuck, he will help you out.If you need any advice off me(for what its worth) then ring me on 07982259790. As for going to single turbots, well thats ok if you\'ve got lots of money!!  (wot does lol mean)???Bob.

One thing I wouldn\'t be too happy about is putting lots of weld on the turbots, not good idea!

NO! these cable will still have a feed to them by cutting them off you risk shorting something out and poss killing your ecu.

and try electrical whole sale for caps (cable caps for 6mm pipe or coaxial) , or use a short piece of pipe between 2 of the nipples, failing that a small bolt in the end of a short pipe. also i advise using some small cable ties to hold the pipes and caps on.

Title: Non seq. Turbots
Post by: Bob Monkhouse on September 15, 2007, 10:07:13 AM
Getting the fannymould off-.Make sure you have plenty of room under the car and a decent area to work on the car, do the job in a cramped garage and you\'re doomed to failure! A good bit of old carpet under the car is invaluable as you will spend some time under there.-If you can\'t find one then I\'m sure the missis won\'t mind you borrowing the one out of the front room!!
The first important job is getting the steering link off. Take your time and use plenty of wd.The fannymould should come off reasonably easy after that. Crack the nuts with a long bar and socket, then go get a \'carolus\' rat **** spanner(bout a tenner), they are invaluable for a couple of the nuts as you can only turn them a click at a time, the others you need a good quality rat **** for the sockets, its not worth trying to do the job with crap tools, the cheaper rat ****s aren\'t fine enough. Here endeth todays sermon. Good luck( should I say here that you\'ll need it)!!!!! -thats awind up by the way, slow and steady and be methodical, there is nowt particularly difficult about any of it. If I have time I\'ll post some pics etc in the next couple of days. One last thing, I didn\'t do any welding apart from a couple of tacks to hold the threaded plugs I used( 1x 3/8bsp and 1x M14x2), virtually all the other vac take offs on the inlet manifold and bananas were drilled out and tapped with either M6 or M8 second tap 3/4 down and then blanked off with grubscrews and also locktited, much tidier and safer than sticking plastic plugs over the nipples. I also used the long take offs near the throttle body for the dump valves(which actually work properly now), super glue and tie wrap all vac pipes left.

What are you machining the wastegate to? I did our Grants to the 1.24" recommended- it won\'t go any bigger than this-BUT and I mean BUT, the port is not central to the gate its self and you have to make sure the guy machining it knows that or the turbots are ****ed! Probably better to stick to 30mm, its easier and safer. I do my own machining and I was sweating doing that!! I only ran the miller down the port about 5mm then finished blending with the porting tool.

Sorry to hijack this thread firstly, It that a pressure regulator in the top left corner of this pic? The reason i\'m asking is that im looking for a new one for my rex (running higher boost and these help the conrtol systems.) and was wondering if you wanted to sell it?? :cheers  If you do can i ask what pressures etc it works under and waht size the connectors are? Thanks

Bit of an update lol, removed the metal plate that the nest was bolted to and decided to hack most of it off as its unused n covers the engine (thinking better for heat displacemnt lol) before n after pic below, plus i removed the unused vac pipes from the metal section so only the coolent n oil pipe remains :D

O n iv forgot what these 2 plugs r for lol.. any idears?

Removed all the unused connectors to, just need more tape to finish the last few.. makes a huge difference :D
