Title: Tacho Fitting
Post by: dj_dee99 on September 12, 2007, 03:44:54 PM
Just finally getting round to wiring up my tacho. But I have a couple of questions....

I need to set the jumper switches. Do I set it as 2,3,4,5,6,8 or 10 cylinder?

And what is the best place to take the actual rev counter feed from?

Thanks :D

Well, had a little browse around. Saw a thread saying it needs to be set to 4 cylinder. But still trying to find where to pick up the feed. Saw this post..... http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showpost.php?p=334767&postcount=12 (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showpost.php?p=334767&postcount=12) but that mentions a Brown wire with Blue stripes on the back of the rev counter. But I haven\'t got a wire in that colour on there :(

Have a look for a yellow/blue. It can be found at the smaller of the two yellow plugs (12 pin) that plug into the Mazda ECU but I\'m not sure if it keeps the same colour behind the dials. You can either disconnect the ecu plug and buzz it out to the dash or wait until tomorrow when I\'ll tell you for certain.

Well, found the yellow/blue wire at the ecu, it also goes up to the dash, but it didn\'t give a reading at either end. But my standard rev counter had stopped working the other day. So I\'m guessing there could be a fault at the ecu???

Have you tried the new rev counter on it?

Yeah. Gets no response. I\'m assuming I have it set for 4 cylinder as I read this in an old thread on here.

Aha! Found the problem.

Wiring loom had been rubbing on the wheel and had nicely chewed up & split a few wires. No prizes for guessing the colour of 1 of those wires...... Yellow/Blue! So it\'s all sorted now.

Was kinda hoping 1 of the damaged wires was the cause of my mile readings not working. But unfortunately they\'re still off :(
