Title: whats a fair price?...
Post by: the lemster on September 12, 2007, 02:04:34 PM
hi all, as you may or may not know my 93 rex is in the big 1/4 mile strip in the sky ( or a holding compound in wiltshire, depending on what wya you want to look at it)

the first offer the Ins Co gave me was 5650 which I rejected they then took 5 weeks to get another quote doen with some of their engineers and came to conclusion that this was a fair price... second offer was the same  Â£5650, I can go through their complaints proc. but this will undoubtedly mean more weeks without a car,  I was hoping for between 6 and 7K for the car...

it was a 93 typr r unmodified full leather lovely condition completely standard car well maintained and everything...  is 5650 a fair price (5300 after my xs is taken into account)

they gave me evidence of cars available for this price range all of which are modified with zorts pods wheels gauges etc so not like mine... do mods have a detrimental price on the car?....

all advice gratefully appreciated.

Lem

Seems about as good a price as you could expect for a standard 93 import.

you can argue that you get a premium for a standard model.. find prices and get evidence, then they will negotiate.

IMHO price of an FD is largely based on engine history or provable condition, not age or mods (unless massively modified). The only exception is UK spec and unmodified which have a premium for ease of insuring them.

For an original engine on a 93 with no rebuild, their price is probably fair unless it is very low mileage (less than 30k, say).

If it\'s had a recent rebuild from a reputable tuner (within last 10k) it should be worth 6-7k or more.

If it has no engine history at all you would need to do a compression test to assess the value - good compression is almost as good as recent rebuild evidence when you are selling it, unless the mileage is high (50-60k+), in which case the water seals cannot be proven to be sound.

Cars asking for 8k+ tend to be late/mint, low mileage originals or have just been rebuilt at great expense, or perhaps heavily modified (single turbo etc.)

People asking 10k+ are kidding themselves and should keep the car! Unless it\'s got more than two rotors

IMHO!

If you wanted to buy my car it would cost you more than £10k.

But then again I\'m not selling it :D

the engine was rebuilt by rotechniks  last year... done about 10k on it cam with 24 month warranty so it shuld be worth more than the 5300 I will get...

I am accepting  that as an interim payment so I can atleast get a runa round for now... or maybe  a lucky find for a  new rex  if I had 7 I have found a lovely one but comes with no warranty.... boooo and as you know it is the warranty you are buying...lol

thanks for all the replies anyway...

In that case I would be pushing for more. Sorry to hear they are being sh*t about it. Rotechnics would be selling it for what, no less than £6800 I\'m guesssing? Perhaps less privately, why not get Rotechnics to quote you for the equivalent, they are a rotary dealer as well as a garage after all. They offered me a standard 95 with warrantied engine (but not rebuilt) for about 7500 when I was looking last year.

I know that MRC have written a letter stating their valuation in the past, perhaps you might like to ask Clive if he is willing to do one for you?

Mate, you didn\'t tell us about the rebuild.

What is the mileage and year of the car, and it\'s cosmetic condition pre accident ?
