Title: Failed the MOT Today
Post by: Lum on September 11, 2007, 04:16:34 PM
Because it was too loud! :yes
Exhaust system noise is clearly in excess of that emitted by a similar vehicle fitted with a standard silencer in average condition
That\'ll be the large ports & lack of silencer/CAT then!
One borrowed exhaust bung later and i\'m good to go.... well for a year anyway!:wiggle
Strangely it managed to fly through the emissions test despite having no cat, airpump or any of the standard emissions control junk fitted :Laugh

Didn\'t think there was a noise test in an MOT!!!! or they shouldn\'t fail you on it as there is no noise test for it!!!

The noise test has been a part of the MOT for a long time, just use an MOT station filled with trackday and drag racing staff, works every time :Giggle

recently got a retfication notice from the Police for my exhaust, one MOT later didn\'t make any changes and Mr Police man is happy. All seemed a little pointless to me.

well so long as your sorted. i was very suprised when my 96 rx flew through the emissions as i was expecting this to be a major sticking point for it considering how much crap they spew out when just idling :D
Title: questions

hey people, sorry to hijack, but at least this thread will know what i\'m talking about. Going for my first MOT on my new FD,

1). Does anyone know what the carbon monoxide, lambda, hydrocarbon emission levels should be for a 1992 import?

2). Should I go to Nationwide, so I can watch them do the testing?

3). If I go to a smaller garage, do they normally have all the testing equipment, or just do a quick test.

I need to find a RX7 friendly station. I once had a MOT failed, just cos the guy didn\'t like my car (FB RX7), and then another just check the brakes, slap a sticker on it, cos he said it was in such immaculate condition, he didn\'t need to test the rest of it!  :chat

where in London are you?

If you want an MOT garage who understands RX7s there is a very good one in Reading (Thames Valley MOTs) run by a guy called Dave (Sicknote on here).

I can go anywhere in North London, i\'ll do it on a saturday morning, as I have no plates! (hence why I want to find a good one, then book, so its ok to drive to the MOT)

Upto 1996 imports can go through the more lenient emissions test which is 3.5% CO and 2400ppm HC - they don\'t check Lambda as far as I recall

Eleventh letter of the Greek alphabet! Probably not much help in this context, though. :)

It measures how efficient the air and fuel are burning.  Usually on normal cars this is 1.00 and the tolerence is 0.03 +/- On the rotary its around 1.67
