Title: Upgraded Fuel Pump - when to fit?
Post by: alexb on September 09, 2007, 02:08:40 PM
Hi Guys,

I\'ve recently bought a Supra TT fuel pump and have a question about when to fit it.

My car will be in for a rebuild and fitting of replacement twin turbos in the next few weeks, and this seems like a good time to fit the pump.

However, the car won\'t have upgraded injectors etc fitted at that time, and won\'t be mapped on the PFC until the engine is run in.

If the pump\'s fitted now will the increased flow rate make the car run mega rich or will the PFC and current injectors cope ok? Should I wait until I\'ve got the additional fuelling bits and get them fitted and the mapping done at the same time?

Cheers,
Alex

Basically if your Fuel regulator does its job properly it should make little to no difference, Its when the cars at WOT it may max the stock pump out and the rail pressure may drop causing "Problems".

But what i would suggest is fitting a Rise rate Fuel regulator at the same time as the pump and that way when you get it mapped the Fuel pressure in the rail can be raised taking advantage of the Bigger Pump.

can you post a link to an appropriate regulator please?

This may help,

We use one regular that we have found gives a nice controllable feed for any fuel system and also comes with an elbow that can be adapted to fit the standard fuel rail when removing the standard one.

And it mounts nicely on the ABS bracket on an FD

Cool, thanks for the replys guys :)

I\'ll take a look at the FPR and then that will be sorted come mapping time :)

I was gonna ask re the gauge also.

Quick silly question...if you fitted the uprated fuel pump and changed the fpr to the one above does it come preset for an FD ? Basically I have to drive to one of the tuners all the way from norfolk and dont want to fit it if it will cause me problems etc running lean/too rich etc driving there.

Would it be better to leave all the fitting until I get to a tuner ?

No worries you can put it on now and you will see around 38Lbs on tick-over which is standard fuel pressue, difference is,  your tuner will then have the option of raising the pressure if he wishes something you can\'t do with the standard system.
