Hi all,
I\'ve done a search but I couldn\'t find anyone who has used nitrous on an n/a 13b in this country??
Does anyone have any thoughts on the pros and cons of an n/a FC running:
an extend port (\'streetport\') 13b, a carb and a shot of nitrous?
If anyone has any info on the specifics of what else would be needed (i.e, rotor tips, etc.) please comment :)
I\'m having some crazy thoughts about a circa 10k-rpm, 100+ shot wet nitrous injected n/a FC.
I know turbo might work out cheaper (??) but the idea of this is stripped-out track car (if it will pass noise regs!?)
100 shot of nitrous will last hardly any time at all.
Possible around 30 seconds for 10lb bottle,so if used for say 5 seconds at a time then it won\'t last too long.
It can be done but you will need to reduce the revs when that you go too when using it,and use a wet kit with a bit more fuel than you would put in for a piston engine.
Engine needs to be built well for this type of thing with uprated seals for best result and good compession.
Any engine mod that makes more power reduces the life of the engine.
10,000 rpm will need balanced rotating assembly and possibly lighter rotors too.

Carl
Thanks for that Carl.
To be honest I just plucked "10,000" rpm and "100" shot of nitrous out of the air.
It makes sense that\'s how quickly the nitrous would be used up. It also makes sense as to why it\'s (n20) is popular with drag cars (Puerto Rico, Australasia, etc) rather than street cars.
What would you recommend for a good comprimise between engine longevity and power?
starting with 90k-odd miles \'89 EGi (Is that a 6-port?)
Racing Beat \'street\' exhaust - i.e, manifold leading into one silencer than back out to two rear silencers
I was thinking of:
extend port
48 dellorto or similar
lightened flywheel
??
I know this is all a bit \'pie in the sky\' but hey, it\'s the weekend :Party :burnout
If you just did the racing beat exhaust, and carb conversion to a Dellorto then you could get around 180hp at the flywheel.
To port the engine would mean a complete strip down and rebuild at the same time, with a bit of porting you could get around 200hp flywheel.
As for rebuilding, you could put in high compression rotors if you don\'t already have them, (9.7 to 1) as they are lighter and enable a bit more revs along with the lightweight flywheel.
You should be able to rev to 8500rpm with that combo and the right apex seals.

Keep it fuel injected = efficient control and adaptability. You will save so much time and effort setting up for part throttle and transition.
Cheers,
John
Sell that FC and buy a proper car i.e 1st Gen Rx7 or an Rx2\\3.............a proper Old Schooler with Carbs and \'huge\' ports :god :D
ha ha! Ok, you find me one and I\'ll buy it!
I like FC\'s though - one of my favourite cars of all time :Thumbs-up
What do you guys think about this?

Too noisey..........:guinness :Snoring
if its too loud you must be too old :) :) dont you know that the least restriction in the exhaust of a n/a rotary is by far the best way to extract the most horse power  :Giggle

Yeah, come on Jason, everyone knows that i am the only one who can run an N/A car totally unsilenced..............................cos I am the only one who can take all of the stick for doin it!
LOL
Carl
hey carolgees sorry for being off the topic but noticed you are from bath. I never see any rotaries around bath apart from laytons old FD which is now sold. I work in bath so am always out and about round bath, never take the FD into work thou so you wont have seen me about

haha i am in the bath everyday, most of the day, so very very clean :Thumbs-up some people even live in the bath!

but we love you for it Carl:Thumbsup!
ive just had a new back box put on mine, very little silencing and i use it with the baffle removed, no where near as loud as yours but i have found the car runs a lot better in the lower revs and top end, also it sounds great!

and hats off too you :Ladys-man
My n/a has gone into garage today to have a straight through exhaust made up for it, as the stock one had more holes than a slice of swiss cheese. Single exit also. Hope it sounds beefy and give me a touch more power. :)
does anyone know what the holley carb set up by raing beat is like for a rx7 1988? check out www.racingbeat.com (http://www.racingbeat.com) its on there uner the 1985-1992 rx7 section its called a holley intake or something ment to work with a non ported 13b? im really intrested but as its carb its putting me off and not sure how it would run on a 1988 rx7 as i have an afm and this wouldnt use the afm!!??
we have these throttle bodies
http://www.rotaryart.uk.com/acatalog/East_Coast_Parts.html
ok but how hard would this be to set up? i.e. im guessing i need a new ecu to ger rid of the afm ect this i would prefere as its tbs not car and carbs tend to need regular set ups as i found on my dads old car! ill give you a call tomorrow as im off!
TBH i got bored with reading all the posts in this but if you wann do nitrous on a rotary you have 2 options.
1. go to the usa or aus and get help
2. get the right gear and go for it.
There is not 1 person on here that can help you no matter how much they rate themselves
scott
Or Puerta Rico they seem to be kings with Rotaries and Nitrous, from the little I have read you need things like a modified E-Shaft,ECU,very strong Ignition System so the spark does not blow out as the inlet charge will be veryyy cold, but yes no one in this country has developed Nitrous correctly for the Rotary as yet
