Hya,
I have an old 1985 rx7 with a 12a engine, I going to put a set of twin carbs on it but what else can I do to it without going to the extreme of pulling the engine out.
I know some people would say turbo but I fancy some twin carbs in fact r1 motor bike carbs these should be good for 25hp.
cheers mark
Well as in any car....let it breath!!! More air in, better combustion, so in this case the best fuel octane, more fuel etc and then as you want the carbs this is a good choise and relatively staright forward to set up. With this extra fuel and therefore potentially stronger and larger volume of exhaust you need to go bigger bore to extract these gases. Dont go too big though as this can upset performance. In basic terms the more you can get in, the better the compression and combustion the more energy you can extract from it. This energy is converted to the wheels and horsepower. Energy is converted in several ways, noise, heat, etc so we want to make sure that we wrap the exhaust at the front, retain the heat within the exhaust and not around your engine bay to then be sucked in through your intake. try to get rid of restrictive cats or silencers but have a sound pleasing to the ear. Your intake should be fully breathable,no restrictions, smooth passage and well away from the heat of the engine. You could go forced induction and have a seperate opening in your front pumper but this can be quite expensive. So theres the big issue....money !! if you have the means then any amount of power can be achieved but you have to work to a budget, buy quality products and not cheap items that are not up to the job. basically do your homework, look on this forum for any advice and then source the bits you want. Best sometimes to do it in stages as then when you change something and it has a detrimental affect you know what caused it.
