Title: FC Diff Mount
Post by: Matts-gen2 on September 04, 2007, 11:48:49 AM
After reading over past threads, i have found i have the same problem of lumpy during deceleration / low speed in low gear, as the thread discribed.

The problems ive got sound the same and have lead me to thinking i need a new front diff mount.

Has anyone replaced a front diff mount on the FC?

Where can i find a competition diff mount, are they really much better than a standard diff mount?

Matt

Any of the polybush companies will probably be able to sort you out with an uprated mount.

Do you know how the diff mount attaches?  i.e. would it be best to take my mount to them to get dimensions off of?

Been looking at the mount Atkinsrotary.com sell, and it matches with Mazdatrix, who list it as competition mount???

All i can see different is it hasn\'t got the weight block on it, and says its stiffer rubber.

Anyone know if this means it doesnt need the weight block?

the mazdatrix one is very good,  it doesnt need the weight. Its what i fitted.  Its not a poly bush type of mount, the rubber is moulded to the bracket, its only 2 bolts but is a bit of pig to fit.  Thats why you have to buy a new bracket

Did you order through madatrix directly?  I just read they dont accept UK cards.

If its the same one as Atkinsrotary sell, may be easier to get through them.

Thanks.

Did you change the rear diff mounts at the same time as the front diff mount?

Standard gearbox mounts or uprated ones?

Any idea where they are available?

I did my front with the car in a carpark behind the Hostel I was living at in Shepherds bush.

You have to.

Remove drive shafts from diff

Undo tailshaft

take off Camber bar and Lever down the Front crossmember to get to the Front mount bolts ( Or loosen the Front crossmember and drop, Which I couldnt due to the Hyd handbrake lines...)

Swear

Undo rear diff mounts

Drop out diff.

The trick to changing the mount with the front member is in is to slide the front mount bolts over and slightly past the Vertical bracket, Slide in the rear mount , Then Lever the front crossmember to drop in the Front mount.

Drop the front crossmember......

Now to stop it tearing again , you stick in a RX5 ,or other Bolt up the bum bumpstop, Above the diffnose, So that the diff nose cannot rise without hitting it ( The RX5 mount has 5mm clearance, and works well on The rallycars over here in OZ)

So are you saying dont use an rx7 front diff mount?  use an rx5 one??

Nooooo, :3Confused

Use the RX5 bumpstop (Mounted upside down on the floor over the Diff) to stop the Diffnose coming up too Vigerously ( we never launch hard would we....) And causing the Mount to tear due to overextension.

Mine (as in my FC ) arrives in 2 weeks from the UK , So Ill Fit one ASAP (Like the day it arrives, Oh how I like having my tools and A gararge again ) and take a Picture to show how the "Diffsnubber" fits..

Does anyone know where i can get an appropriate bumpstop for the diff nose as mentioned above?

Im ordering the new front diff mount today, along with gearbox mounts and bits.

Just dont know an appropriate size bumpstop as ive no idea of the clearance distance.

i mean dont want to change the diff mount then have diff down without appropriate bumpstop redy to fit.

Dont fancy undoing it all twice.
