Guys, my wench has developed an addiction to boost!!!
Most of you know the work I have done to the car (my project bits!!) well on the way back from RS4 I ran with the boost controler turned off which set the boost back to stock 0.7 bar (this was solid for the 250 mile jurney home!), but for some strainge reason yesterday it waved it\'s middle finger at me and started to boost to 1.04 - 1.09 bar:eek: still with the controler off!!
What you recon has gone peeps?? what you recon I should look at first???
Cheers
Jono
Turn the boost controler back on ?
If you have an open exhorst and induction the fd has a tendency to spike or creap, this is kept in check with a boost controler or a remap by carl :)
Colder weather?
Boost controller on & set to minimum on low setting it was hitting 1.09 bar!!!
It seams to work correctly when it wants to!!!

Sounds like its not set up correctly.
You prolly need to look up the instructions online and get it to start limiting boost or it may be bad for the motor.
What setup are you running, including motor, turbos, fueling, ecu, and controlers (ie. boost controler).
Also are you sure your boost gauge is correct, can you feel the extra boost.
When mine was spiking to 1.2 it was like all hell broke loose compaired to 10psi.
The above info will help people diagnose whats wrong.
You worked on mine at RS4 mate!! Mine was the only rotor to have a cr@p compression result :( !!
The thing is, when I first set up the controller, it was peaking at 0.85 bar all the time.... then the next time I drove it it was hitting fuel cut at 1.09 bar... searched for a loose pipe, found one & fixed it & boost was back to .86, then the next time I turned the key it was back to fuel cut!! turned the controller off & it was a solid 0.7, and yet again next time I drove it... you guessed it = fuel cut at 1.04bar!!!!!!!!!!!!
The car has std fueling, power fc, full exhaust (turbos back) air pump removal, secondry throttle removed, monster V mount, induction kit, ProfecB boost controler (occasionaly) set up as per website.
Jono
Think your compresion results could have been better, will pm you about them.
Do you think your ProfecB boost controler is set up correctly.
Nice car btw ;)
pipes on front of turbo pack from the top of each actuator, check those as they contain boost pills. otherwise check all of your check vavles (thats probaby why there are called check valves :rollin ) if all ok check for vacuum leaks all around plenul and LIM and rats nest.
good luck mate & let me know if you need any help,
tharek
Got no pills there on mine fella.... never have?? it\'s just anoying as it\'s so random!!! think I\'m going to check the wastgate to see if it\'s stuck or something stupid!!!
Cheers for the offer Tharek

If you have no pills then theyve been left out or you have 99 spec turbos.
Check all of the wastegate lines. If there are any leaks this can cause a problem. Could be a hairline crack or similar explaining why it works when it wants to (e.g when car heats up crack lets more air out and problem is worsened)
have you had your rats nest re-done?
Am i correct in thinking You dont need pills when you have a boost controler .
When i installed My Apexi Avcr it did away with them.
My avcr acts like pils it limits the vac in those lines.
The boost controller can not limit boost. Check what your air temps are when the boost creeps. It may be as simple as you are having a nice case of over efficiency and boost creep.

I hear so manny people echo this.
No disrespect but, Please exsplain as i find it hard to belive as i have been told otherwise by somebody who is renound for his knowledge in these matters, he even advised me to get one, and even talked me through its importaces in rotary applications. :)
No attitude intended here just learning curve. :)
Inlet temps very seldom cross 25c (27 was max traveling back from RS4 on the suny sunday!) so the engine is getting a very dence charge!! but how is it it works OK sometimes??? could it be a sticky wastgate??
J
more likely to be what is controlling things such as wastegate than the item istelf mate

should be there on yours. two of the boosting issues ive fixed on two peoples cars have had these hoses with pills replaced for hoses without.
Hi Steve,
You met me at RS4, so I\'m sure you know who I am:) Basicaly Boost controllers keep the wastegate closed until a preset pressure(duty cycle in electronic controllers) is achieved, then allowing the wastegate spring to compress allowing some exhaust gasses to bypass the turbine wheel.
The wastegate is unable to control boost creep. On the standard turbo pack, the actuator ports are relatively small, so when you have a more efficient intake and exhaust system(combined with low air temps) the engine is flowing a whole lot more volume, and getting rid of the exhaust gasses faster, resulting in inefficient wastegate control.
Cheers,
John

I know who ya are John ;) thats why i angled for an explanation from ya as searching only reveals conflicting answers.
Even chuck westbrook has a different view, he set mine up.
It fixed my boost problems, mine wasnt creep it was spiking, my boost pattern was 10-16-10 and after the AVCR boost controler and correctly setting it up my boost was 10-9-10 to 10-10-10 witch wasnt perfect but a hell of a lot safer.
Maybe there was an underlined problem that the installation fixed.
It almost sounds like the Avcr is bleeding boost off (prolly imposible) but when my second turbo kicks in i can hear a very fast whush whush whush sound and each time you see the defi needle drop a tiny bit, Maybe i have it all wrong but thats why im here (learning).
My avcr did away with the pills and joined the actuators (actuators ?)together
Like i say learning curve here no attitude intended (my posts get read wrong sometimes) :)
Noticed your talking about creap and im refering to spiking.
Diferent problem?
No worries Steve... What your man did was reduce the amount of gain. What this does is keeps the wastegate closed as long as possible before letting it open. This allows the turbo(s) to reach peak set boost as quickly as possible, but the down side to this is spiking, if the boost solonoid doesn\'t react fast enough.
Cheers,
John
Still dont claim to understand it all, guess i got something thats gonna bug me till i compleatly understand it :)
Oh well just another subject to constantly search for.
Anyway expect me to pick brains at some point :Laugh
mine used to hit fuel cut with just an Rmagic catback, everyone said it was the exhaust... turned out to be a faulty acctuator
I feel realy stupid now!!!!
Went through the actuator system tonight checking for leaks etc..... had a small pump that I fitted direct to the actuator... couple of pumps & it started to open. few more & it was fully open. I left it at that pressure for 5 mins & the actuator arm didnt retract, so no pressure leaks & actuator is working good!!
From here I put the pipe back on the actuator & removed the pressure pipe from the turbo pack, did the same again & again all worked as it should, with no pressure leakage after a few mins!!
Then I checked the pipe for the boot gauge & controller...... pumped it to 10psi on the interior boost gauge & there was a slight air leak..... 1psi lost every 50seconds or so, so that wouldn\'t afect the readings!!!
From here I though balls to it, I\'m gonna have a coffee.... ooo, there it is getting cold while I\'m typeing (slurp)!!! I desided to check the manual to see what it said in the set up, and bugger me, my settings are all to ****!! ballance is set to minimum so the thing definatly isn\'t set right as the manual said it should be about the 12 O\'clock mark, then set your desired boost level (while driving) then adjust the balance slightly to compensate for overboosting or unsteady boost!!! so I\'m going to have a weekend of fuel burning me thinks!!!!
Jono
im running a Profec b , standard ic, injectors, with uprated fuel pump with stock twins on standard boost, if you want some settings to get you started ill write them down for you. Pip set myn up when it was mapped.
