Title: (silly question) what does the HEAT light mean?
Post by: Martin on February 09, 2004, 03:19:13 AM
sometimes I don\'t have time to warm the engine up the HEAT light comes on a off when I drive off (really slow). What does it mean? is it telling me to warm the engine before use??

There are two heat lights!!!! One on the dash for the water temp, check fluid level, and the second down by the handbrake.

If it\'s the one down by the handbrake it\'s the cat over heating, which I dont think you would do unless on track, and by then you would have removed it/them. ;)

It\'s the dash one...coolant? it just flashes on and off once or twice when I drive off but when it warms up a little.. it doesn\'t come on again.

I had to start it 3 times the other day... thought I flooded it... but it started on the 3rd try.. gave me a fright:rollin

Check all the fluid levels before driving it again.

AFAIK the only cars with a heat light near the handbrake are UK spec ones like yours Dan. Jap ones have it in the dash. Is yours UK spec or Jap Martin? Also do you have a Power FC?

In that case it\'s probably your knock sensor going over its trigger threshold. Nothing to worry about, mine does it from cold too. I think it\'s down to the various ancillaries/solenoids etc waking up from cold, fooling the knock sensor into thinking it\'s engine knock. The knock sensor is basically a microphone that will pick up any engine noise/vibration, not just knock.

hope this helps,

Steve
