Title: Newbie needing buying advice please
Post by: onlyady on September 02, 2007, 05:23:40 PM
Hi guys.

Quick intro I am 26 always love fast cars and have a Skyline but have been offerde an FD3  for what seems a good price.

The car is a red auto import on 95k km\'s. I have not heard her run yet (flat battery been stood since march as is 1 of 8 cars)  but have been told it hunts from cold start which from the site I understand is not a major worry but have also been told that when you turn her off she overruns for a bit. What is all that about will it need a rebuild?

If I do buy what would the car be worth with the engine needing a rebuild?

Would I get 3K or would that be pushing it?

The interior is in fantastic condition no rips peeling or anything and the rest of the car is standard even the exhaust (although this has a hole in the rear box) and is owned by an american lady 50+ who hates it (she has a few extra pounds getting in aint easy) hence why it has been sat.

Any advice will be greatly recieved.

Or if anyone wants to buy of me make an offer as this may make me buy it anyway lol.

Cheers onlyady

I honestly dont think it is the same car as this is on a local raf base and has been all its life over here. Any other advice please?

Bodywork is really good just needs a polish.

One think I did check was as you look at engine on the left there is a water tank this was nearly full and when i put my finger in ther was no muck or dirt at all just smelled like anti freeze.

ahh ok...sory... must be two auto red FDs in that area with probs then! I think in this current climate for FD sales, you can get an auto that works properly for not much more than 3k....

What could cause the running on?

Quick update. I decided to buy the car. It doesnt over run was just a turbo timer, no smoke ever, starts first time when hot or cold seems quite good. Really pleased with the way it drives (only let down is auto) pulls as well as I would expect and is soooooo smooth just needs a backbox and a good polish.

I can really see the apeal of these cars now and even considering selling my 33GTR to get a good manual one but we shall see.

Cheers
