I have an \'85 FB, that has recently started bleeping at me for 10-20 seconds when I first start up.
I\'ve checked the oil level repeatedly (getting very paranoid) and its fine, I\'ve chased through, cleaned & checked the wiring, and everything seems fine there as well.
I thought it could be a faulty sensor, but it seems odd that it only ever happens when I first start the engine (hot or cold).
Any suggestions?
Gary
put your seat belt on ??
my cab beeps at me for 5 secs when i put the key in ?
The seatbelts are long gone.
I have had the car for a while, and it never used to do it.
For the first time I used semi-synthetic oil, is it possible that could mess things up?
cant picture it to be honest
as long as there is oil in it - i wouldnt worry about that side of things ( he says !! )
you need to figure out what would cause the beeping
1 - key in ignition
2 - seat belts
3 - low water
4 - lights on
etc...
Gary, you\'re saying fuel sensor in your title, do you mean oil or fuel?
Next, if its the oil level sensor, there\'s a recent post between Captain Bizarro and me which might help. search under \'X01\' to find it (It\'s a connector reference - cuts the search down). The level sensor is not concerned with the oil grade so if it\'s oil level alarm sounding it\'s not that.
Next, is oil pressure OK whilst the alarm\'s sounding? If so it\'s almost certain to be a wiring or level switch issue. The effect of Semi Synth oil on the oil pressure system I don\'t know about.
Sorry, must have been having one of those days! I meant "oil".
I\'ve checked the connector block X01, and all the connections are fine.
The oil pressure is OK whilst the alarm is sounding.
I was presumming if it was an electrical connection problem that the fault would be more intermittent than it is - it only ever happens when I first start the engine.
I guess now is a good time to pull it all to pieces.
Gary
Wait, before you do that - if you\'re sure you\'ve got correct oil level and pressure then eliminate the level sensor from the problem by disconnecting it and then starting up. Does the alarm disappear? If so the sensor is sticking. (It\'s a mechanical device I think).
Also - can you confirm it\'s just the oil warning coming up. If it\'s multiple dash warnings with the chime sounding, it could just be the choke and check relay sticking.
David, thanks for the advice. Its only the oil warning light.
I disconnected the sensor - no warning, reconnected -still no warning (so far so good) Bad connection perhaps?
As long as the problem doesn\'t come back, I guess I\'ll just leave well alone.
Gary
Yes.. I wonder if a corroded or dirty connection at the sensor was putting the alarm up? Clean it all up and spray with WD and that might be it. Otherwise, I read somewhere that synth or semi synths can loosen up carbon particles when 1st used. Maybe theres a bit in the level sensor? At least you\'re down to the sensor area - more manageable than the circuitry!
I\'ve ammended the thread title for you :wave
Thanks Brett
 Pesky oil level sensors!!
