Title: Removal of heater controls
Post by: dhracer on August 28, 2007, 07:16:01 PM
I\'ve taken out the panel that contains the controls and removed the 4 screws that seem to hold the button assemblies onto the facia but it still doesn\'t budge :2Confused

i think u need to remove the whole gauge cluster as theres a few screws for the heater section underneath it.. plus theres those clips that are a bloody knightmare to shift.. jus be careful because the plastics snap for a pasttime..

:xconfused I\'ve done all that I think (removed the plastic around handbrake, removed dash dials etc).

Just to clarify I\'ve taken out the actual panel, and disconnected all the wires so it\'s sat on the kitchen table.  But the control buttons and electronics themselves I can\'t get them away from the plastic

So I have (http://www.rotaryart.uk.com/acatalog/heaterconsole-50.gif) this sat on the kitchen table, but I don\'t know how to get the buttons out (well I\'ve taken out the dash dimmer but that was easy)

If I read correctly you have the panel and controls out of the car but want to separate them. If I\'ve read correctly you need to take the buttons (blower speed, blower direction and heat) off the front, be careful and try not to mark either the front or the switches. A small flathead screwdriver inbetween and twisted whilst pulling the switch. There is a sticky glue type substance round the edges which holds it all (the front panel and the controller) together, gently heat it with a hair dryer or leave it somewhere quite warm for a while and it\'ll just prise off.

Hope that helps
Barry

Thanks guys, I\'ve got them apart now :Thumbs-up (except for the paper dial diagrams, which as said are glued in place - although this looks to be the same glue that might respond to heating, anyone tried that?)

I can mask it up and get spraying now :)

Just for information the dial faces can be taken out in the same way, they\'re clear plastic not paper :Thumbs-up
