Title: More Intake noise and boost loss?
Post by: DMDRIFTING on August 25, 2007, 06:39:25 PM
Hello all,

wondered if you might be able to help?

Standard FD3S, air intake, boost, etc, running non sequential.

The past few days it has begun to make much more of an intake noise at WOT than ever before and has definatley lost some boost/performance.

Is there anything immediately worth checking? I\'m gonna take the intercooler pipes, intake pipes etc off tomorrow and try find any problems!

ifits non seq then more l;ikely than not you have a boost leak..check all your couplers and boost hoses for splits...you have to take em off to chekc em properly.

you have a split coupler or hose most certainly, the intake noise is the leak, take off the intercooler hoses and thoroughly examine and squeeze etc to be sure.

Can\'t upload picture, guess i need to be full member!

The Main intercooler pipe that leads from the turbo, and running under the strut brace has a large 2\'\' long crack in the rubber, about 3mm wide.

Anyone got one for sale?

4 things are likely
Definitely a boost leak, number 1 maybe from a pipe going to the intercooler or from it.
number 2 likely thing is the dump valve to pipe that comes from the Y pipe has come off.
Number 3 is intercooler itslef has a leak.
Number 4 possible inlet manifold gasket failure, but this usually affects the idle too.

I put up a post about an \'idle purr?\' which is probaly being caused partly by this crack and maybe worth checking the inlet manifold gasket!

Just E-mailed you Lee with pictures of the cracked part

Thank you all for your quick reply, i\'ll let you know if it sorts the idle purr out in my other post :Thumbs-up
