Title: Throttle body setup
Post by: nikp on August 25, 2007, 02:28:08 PM
Ok, i have just replaced my throttle body with a different one, that has had everything removed from it. So, i start her up, and she\'s now cold idling at 2400rpm, and the revs didn\'t seem to drop as she warmed up. I didn\'t let her fully warm up though, so i\'m not 100% on this.

Throttle adjustment screw on the top is completely out, the idle valve is not plugged in, and the air bleed screw at the base has 3 half turns unscrewed from being screwed in fully.

Can anyone suggest what to adjust, and whether it should be clockwise or anti-clockwise?

Check the wax valve setup is releasing properly. I\'ve got a set where the little roller that the cam moves against is reusted so it wont release until pushed by a finger. Mine has done this on occasion where I\'ve let the throttle cable or cruise control cable get hitched up in the linkage wrong, and it holds it open a fraction.

will be; Throttle position sensor, idle screw, bleed screw or cold start mech. if modified throttle body the plates may be leaking or the join between the UIM and it may be but is unlikley.

let me know if you need a walk through mate.

Ok, well i think i know what the issue is. We had to strip the throttle body so i could spray it up. Obviously it had to be rebuilt. I think the issue is that the butterflies don\'t quite line up 100% and there are slight gaps between them and the wall of the throttle body, thus letting more air through.

So looks like i need to re-adjust their position. The trouble is, the screws holding them are very soft, and we used thread locking compound to secure them in. Have tried mole grips on them with no luck. Argh! grrr.....

try pipe grips mate.

they start on hand power but as you apply pressure they tighten.
