Title: Emissions Problems!!
Post by: Paul1982 on August 22, 2007, 03:39:26 PM
My car has just fail it’s MOT â€" I was expecting it but now need your help

Right â€" the UK car MOT Co2 emission limit is 0.3% and the usual car is between 0.2% and 0.3%. The Import car pre 1993 is allowed 3.5%.
My car was reading 9-10%  - aaaahhhhhh :spank

So besides the obvious (Lamda Sensor) what else do you think I need to be looking for???

Was this with or without a cat? Air pump?

Sorry, I don\'t know enough to help, but I\'m sure knowing the above will help someone more knowledgable answer the question! :)

right all u need is 3.5co no fast idle test
first u prob have a shagged lambda sensor assuming ur ar on standard ecu
second ur air pump may not be working
and last ur cat is shagged
solution
change lambda approx 60-70 quid and see what happens
second new cat expensive
3rd get apexi ecu and u shd get 3.5 easily buy my money is on a shagged lambda sensor as the main culprit

it probably needs a engine rebuild, i had the same thing when i first got mine, i put a new engine in and it past first time.:flamed

i would still change the lamber sensor just to be sure and becoz its cheap.

check the cat to, take off the back box start the rex and rev it hard if the baffles start to come out its fu*ked....

LOL, Class ^

How does it idle? is it smooth or does it hunt/miss a bit? Does the air pump engage on (do you get an odd moo on idle) Do you get any rattlest from the exhaust area?

i would be tempted to Reset the Ecu (make sure there is no codes there and your not on Limp mode) and possibly fit a Lamda sensor anyway as there kind of disposable and with two cats on still its properly got a nice layer of carbon on it.

last but not least have you given it a good spanking recently? Always good to give it some beans just before it gets MOT\'d to clear out any carbon (doesn\'t always work but i\'ve seen it work for the MOT guys i use)
