Don\'t forget that big packages attract the attention of customs and you\'ll be charged VAT on your buying price and shipping costs. Plus the cost the shipping company will charge you for paying this to customs on your behalf and then claiming it back from you (usually around £14).
A good way around this is to get the company you\'re buying from to put "second hand" on the item description and to put on a price vastly under what you actually paid them. That way you\'ll pay some VAT but not the extortionate amount on the full price.
Of course, you may get lucky and customs won\'t pay it any attention at all...
You can probably guess that I speak from bitter experience! :D
or you get the supplier to mark down the price of the total package, so therefore you will pay less tax but still will pay some.

You\'ll be charged import duty at some thing around 4.5% on the goods and shipping value and then VAT on the total of the lot.

Indeed, but Customs arent as dumb as they used to be, for every item that gets thru customs without problem you can guarantee there are loads that dont. If they open up yer stuff (which they often do as a matter of course during clearance) and it looks new then they are gonna have a go if they\'ve had a poor week on the collection front :)
True - they did this with a package I had from Singapore. Bizarrely the item was actually secondhand but it looked so new they charged me against the full retail price. I argued this and sent supporting documentation and got me money back.
Once it\'s in your possession it\'s your word against the person who inspected it and if you\'ve got the documentation supporting your claim then the battle is yours...
... in theory....
;)
PS. I\'ve never been charged import duty on my "second-hand" goods - only VAT.
Cheers guys.. the kit only cost around $500(£270) so I thought even with VAT and import duty and shipping.. it would still work out cheaper than getting it from the UK... tha is if it doesn\'t get smashed to bits on transit:( its a CWEST style one..

OMG.. Fedex wants $1500! thats insane!

Whats it made of? papier-mâché?? Sounds too cheap by far!
As for $1500 to ship it; I paid about £350+ for a catback and midpipe a couple of years ago. Havent had any thing from the states since, too much hassle for me.
$500 sounds about right. A C2 Veilside kit without the GT wing is nearly £900 cheaper than getting it from the UK. This is mainly due to the fantastic exchange rate at the moment. Even with high shipping costs, VAT etc (although $1500 is FAR FAR too much - try UPS) you can still get a bargain.
Shows you how much we get ripped off in this country tho\'...
If you\'re not in a hurry it might be worth giving Pow-R (http://www.pow-r.co.uk) a shout as I know Alan is negotiating with CWest at the moment to ship stuff directly over.
Yeah I\'m familiar with Pow-R.. :(but I don\'t like any of the kits he has lol... I\'ll have to call them and see when they\'ll be able to get some over ;)
Nah what I meant was he is Looking to become a direct supplier of C-West kit to the UK ;)
The size of the parcel is too big for most of the postage calculators:rolleyes:
