Title: Help!!!!
Post by: trotter on August 20, 2007, 07:44:33 AM
Hey all,

Picked up Rexy yesterday, A 93-plate Type-R...

Only problem is that when I accelerate over 4.5k rpm, the heat warning light begins to flicker! Its not constant as sometimes it flickers from as low as 3k?

Running an Apexi ECU (not teh commander) and I realised that it is probably a det warning. The engine was rebuilt in december with a 4.5k limit on the revs by Pip, and has only covered 1000 miles since then - could this be related?

Cheers

T

Hi Mate,

Your heat light acts as a warning light for all sensors, mine was on because of the Fuel Temp Sensor being dodgy..........

If you wanna bring the car over here and plug in my commander that will show you which sensors are causing concern and it will also allow you to read your knock levels too.

Hey there,

Does it still have the 4.5k rev limit? if so the ecu it could be cutting the fuel. Also, general question, what did pip say the run in period (Mileage) is? and this follow to my next question, has the car been mapped??

N4bes is right about the sensors tho\', i generally find under hard acceleration my heat light flickers. I put that down to a dodgy knock sensor, cos it has done it ever since being mapped. That was 2 years ago and no blown motor yet.

Is you car silver by any chance?

I\'m having the same problem with mine @ 3-5000rpm it flickers for a very short period and i get a knock peak of 180 off boost! Is my engine going to explode or is it a dodgy knock sensor?

No worries mate, just let me know when suits you bud.................

FEED : From what I can gather, the knock sensors can be a tad iffy...... Just make sure you have no other sensors out by checking your commander mate. Does the Apexi not retard the timing to avoid detonation if it is detecting high knock levels?????? Think it might of gone bang by now if it has been doing it for a while.

as far as i am aware the apexi does not retard the timing to avoid detonation if it is detecting high knock levels.
i have been told the fcon pro might do this ?
not sure though

I saw you in edinburgh as I was going home late last week, you were coming out of the junction at \'Kenny Dunns\', Roseburn. I was in a grey rover.

Your car looks nice!

The fc says everything is more or less fine. My mate told me that anything above 60 on the knock is bad. The knock was fine until randomly in 3rd the light flickered and showed a peak of 180! This was totally off boost too! Car is still under warranty as i\'ve had it 4 days so its going in to the nearest Mazda dealer!

FEED Rocket - Do a search on the forum mate, there\'s loads on here about knock readings. Also off boost will not be knock, it would only happen on WOT (wide open throttle).

Cheers,
Alex

I\'ve done a search mate and there are loads of people with the same problem. Most likely will be the sensor i think.

Yup - my knock readings are all over the place and the motor would have popped a couple of years ago if it was knock :)

Oh - apparently it\'s more likely to be the connector to the sensor rather than the sensor itself breaking.

\'tis cool, got her booked in with Pip for a mapping session on the 4th of next month. Hopefully stop her running so bloody rich! lol

Does anyone know if a mapping sesh includes a dyno run as well? never had to have one done before!

Its supposed to be going to Mazda at the beginning of next month, is the connector part of the actual sensor? I thought they could replace it as its under warranty.

Well, it\'s kind of on the other end of the wire from the sensor itself ;)

Is your car under warranty from Mazda themselves? I guess you could ask them to change it (or clean the contacts in the connector) but as you will have read if something near the engine is generating noise at the frequency the knock microphone picks up then they can try as many sensors as they like... Better bet is to get a proper rotary tuner (i.e. not a Mazda dealer ;)) to check the engine is running properly with the correct air/fuel ratios etc so you know you can safely ignore the knock readings from the Power FC.

Yeah mate, you get a dyno read out as well..................

Wot all you got done and what you expecting HP wise.....???

Ohhh and leave the building when it\'s getting done mate, hearing your car go through a map is pretty scary .....lol.

I live close to Lincoln, anyone know where i can find a proper rotary tuner?

at the moment she has stock twins, Blitz induction kit, Blitz dump valve, Blitz turbo timer and boost controller, FMIC of unknown origin - I can\'t get low enough to see it! and an HKS Super Dragger exhaust.

Before engine rebuild she was kicking out about 300bhp alledgely - sound about right?

trotter, mines running 353bhp at fly, 299bhp at wheels. got apexi induction kits, Greddy boost controller, Greddy fmic and 3" downpipe all the way through with decat, and apexi ecu and commander. so yeh, sounds about right.

as for knock sensors, anything over 60 and the heat light will flicker - standard setting. this limit can be moved with an apexi, pip will do it when he maps it if need be.
the knock sensor can be "conned" into reading high levels if there is a dodgey engine mount, bush etc. Just ask pip he`ll sort it.
