Hey all,
Is there any real difference between these lot? All Magnecor leads I\'m looking at, all different options.
MRP does the 8mm, RotaryArt does the 8.5 and 10mm, what\'s the difference? Not running an ignition amp at all, just standard coils and standard power and boost.
Also, would foul\'ed plugs and maybe dodgy leads cause the car to run really rich?
Cheers,
Mark
Stock set up then stick with the 8mm ones.
Kevin
Yep, the bigger ones become a bit of a PITA to fit in the stock location and there usaly not quite long enough to reroute.
Cool, although I think my plugs are knackered as well, so looked at my old one\'s that came out and they were 9\'s and 10\'s???
When I got it I\'d replaced them with 7\'s and 9\'s but do you think the ECU may have been messed with and hence would be better running 9\'s and 10\'s? It\'s twins, with a cat back exhaust and a weird middle button in the centre console that I dare not touch ;)
The ECU has definately been played with as I don\'t have the 112mph limit at all...
Sounds like you\'ve a played with ECU quite possibly a re ameyina unit if its got a increase boost button. Personally i think you should get the A/F readings checked out to be on the safe side.
Kevin
It does run rich, but then I thought all rotaries run rich ;)
But now it\'s running stupid rich! But I think that\'s fouled plugs, would that cause poorer ignition and hence more unburnt fuel?
I think I may "have" to invest in a Power FC and be done with it, then have a slight clue as to what\'s going on! Cheers for the advise so far.
One last thing, plugs, should I just stick with 9 and 10\'s or maybe just go for 9\'s all round?
I\'ll stick with the 8mm leads and hope the coil packs are all behaving!
As you are getting fouled plugs then go for the 9\'s all around.
Kevin
If you read the section for 10mm magnecor, we do tell everyone that 10mm are not recommended by magnecor.
They only get used in Drag cars etc with correct amplifiers.
But some insist on 10mm so they are there.
I\'ll double check my list tomorrow but Im sure 8mm are for FC and FB, not for FD
Thanks Gary, it does say that on your website! So I\'ll probably stick with the 8mm or 8.5\'s... Reading the Magnecor website it looks like they used to recommend the 8.5\'s to everyone but some people wanted to keep it "stock" and hence they started to make 7mm and 8mm leads, so I\'m assuming 8.5\'s would be the same as 8\'s really?
Oh, and the link for the fitting instructions isn\'t working on your website Gary, hth!
And thanks Kev! Just ordered 4 9\'s, I\'ll see how I get on :D
Thanks for letting me know, uplaoding now so be fixed in 10 mins

The question is, is it running rich when you want/need it to? everyone says/assumes the apexi base map is rich for e.g. - but its not rich all over, some cars have pretty lean spots running the base map.
Take the car to some one with a wideband for piece of mind, long term a mappable ecu is the ansa if you want to get the best out of what you have.
Totally understood! I\'m saying rich on idle, which I\'ve personally always found bizzare with rotaries, as I\'d have thought there\'d be the least risk at idle ;)
Anyway, I think the mappable ECU, get it mapped to 95 RON as well, and have it so I know what the hell is happening with it... The thing is, for all I know the ECU has been mapped for 105 RON race fuel or something crazy.
Cheers for all the advise so far, I\'ll let you know how new plugs go for me!
Whatever you do don\'t use MSD. Bought some brand new 8mm ones and they were arcing left, right and centre! Swapped em for some new stock NGK ones and they\'re fine :)
I\'ve used MSD before and wasn;t best pleased either (not on a rotary its a drag VW flat4 in a Bug...) but yes I\'ll echo the above statement :)
Cool, I\'ve got some Magnecor 8.5mm ones in the end so now just for the joy of fitting them! Priority tho\' is the radiator now so they may be next weekend ;)
