Title: standard or 1.5 way differential?? advise please
Post by: Baz116 on August 12, 2007, 01:05:46 PM
Hi, heres my situation;
ive blown my diff on the strip at santa pod, basically due my inexperience, the car started to tramp, and instead of letting off i went for 2nd and floored it, bang went the diff. At least i got 1 run in at 13.3 seconds!
So, my options are,
1. replace with 2nd hand diff - i`m not a fan of using 2nd hand parts so rules this out.
2. replace with new standard diff.
3. replace with a 1.5 way diff.

the diff can not be rebuilt, i did a propper job!!! :Hammer

i have also puchased a diff brace which will be fitted as i have since learnt that the diffs on 3rd gens are not fitted as surcurely as they could be.

the car is mainly used for road use but i do hope to start doing some track days. As for the drag strip, at most once a year for abit of fun but not really my thing, theres no corners- wheres the fun in that!!!!! the car is only my weekend car so not used as a daily driver. The car is running 353bhp at the flywheel, 299bhp at the wheels.

If anybody has experience of using a 1.5 way diff could you please explain the difference in how the car feels/drives compared to a standard diff. Also which diff would suit me and my car best for the usage it will be getting.

i have read clives thread on kazz and cusco diffs which was helpful but was just after more 1st hand experience on these diffs.

thankyou, your advice is appreciated.
Baz.

Kazz are a good upgrade, but trade off is you have to live with a klonking in low gear pulling away, once you get going its ok, perhaps go out in one so you can feel and hear.
To be honest, if doing track days good investment, but for the power you are running a standard diff should be ok and a good one should last.
