Title: Which BOV
Post by: G@NDY on August 12, 2007, 09:09:01 AM
Just wondered what BOV works well with the FC? mine has a blitz one on at the minute and its really quite. Might have to invest in a hks as ive always wanted one:rolleyes:  Anyone know how they sound?

Thanks in advance, regards Andy:Thumbs-up

I have the Greddy Type RS on my FD, I love it.  Gives a slightly chattery sound

After speaking to a few folk its more than likely that i could have a faulty turbo, as its not reaching full boost. So it may be that when thats fixed the blitz will be quite good, had the same one on a MR2 and it sounded quite nice.

We shall see:2Rolleyes

Or the bov is incorrectly adjusted.

If the spring pressure is too lax, it will open whilst boosting and release charge pressure.  Check the spring is nice and tight, there should be a grub screw..

Blitz ones are apparently quite loud. My mate has a HKS on his S14 and it makes a really loud \'tweet\' noise which is very random.

I have had a few on my Turbo 2\'s and i found they are all a bit quiet (next to My Renault 5 and Cosworth) but i have to say i liked the Baileys Piston BOV the best  on the Rx7\'s (i have had both HKS BOV\'s, Greddy type R, Baileys, Apexi and a Turbosmart

TBH though i got board with the hole BOV thing, it was good for a bit then i went on the quest for the Chirp sound :) so my FD now has No BOV at all on and it sounds the Nads.

As for Boost, Turbo 2\'s are a Bugger for Cracking round the Wastegate, it makes them feel slugish and not too responsive and when they get quite bad the Boost starts to drop off. I have done LOTS of Turbine housing swaps because of this. Not a nice Job but it can be done quite easely in a day just make sure you get the correct Series Hot side as the S4 has one Waste gate and the S5 has two (S4\'s don\'t hold there Target Boost as well as S5\'s)

I think the first job is to get myself an aftermarket boost gauge (advise from Stu, thanks matey) to see if it really isnt boosting right.
On the stock gauge at the minute its seems to be hitting higher boost on half throttle around 38-40mmhg and only around 30 ish on full WOT?

I may have got my hands on a turbo thanks to Mark, do i need anything else or is it a case of take off the old one and have a look:rolleyes:

get the boost gauge on first - then work it from there ( trust me on this - a cheapo TIM gauge will be just fine ) and its a 20 min fit

you have a stock car that only boosts to .5 bar - so it might be OK

my cab only makes it half way up the gauge - so thats the next job for me - boost gauge

and the blitz BOV - i had one on the coupe and it sounded coooooool - i can give yours a new home if need be :D

True ^

But you will know if the wastegate is Cracked, boost builds quite slowly and feels  unresponsive (well thats if you have driven a T2 with a Good Turbo before ;))

TBH its really Comon, If you end up doing the job take the Turbine housing off the Turbo you have just got and have a good look at the area around the Wastegates and don\'t forget to mark where the Turbine housing sits on the Core. As for bits the last one i did i reused all the gaskets and just put some Gasket sealer on the with the gaskets and a light smear of Exhaust assembly paste on the Manifold-Turbo and DP. Be carfull you don\'t damage the Lamba sensor in the DP when your undowing it all.

When the Hotside does crack its usaly pointed out when you up the boost, i ran my car at 12psi and if you have a cracked Gate you won\'t be able to get than much boost from it.

^ lol. its got to be easier than a turbo pack off an FD?

I dont think its the bov leaking as on Full WOT it pulls nicely then has a sharp stutter then pulls then stutters, with the chirping noise, its wierd to explain really.

I think i will still have the turbo as you never know when spares will come in handy:rolleyes:

Boost gauge is the first thing tho, ebay will hopefully once again be my friend:Laugh :King

LOL... Just kidding, i can do one in about 6 hours if i take my time a bit, Fd\'s Twins are just Evil in every respect.

I did Jon\'s in about that even with all the messing about with him getting the wrong turbo.

Looks like a nice weekend job for me in the motor club then:rolleyes:

Cant seem to find a boost gauge that like that has a small enough scale on it, most seem to go up to 2 bar, my car wouldnt even waggle it, lol.
