Title: Too good to be true????
Post by: CraigC on August 09, 2007, 07:50:05 PM
Hi guys...

Not sure if this is the right place to post this - but here goes... Stumbled across this UK spec RX7 for sale in autotrader today, maybe others have too:

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars_search.asp?nU=0&make=MAZDA&model=RX7&min_pr=2000&max_pr=3000&postcode=M20%206EW&miles=40&max_records=200&modelexact=1&photo=1&hassearched=Y

(hopefully that link worked)

This is the spec: 1995 MAZDA RX7, rare UK (trade)
model, leather, cruise, etc, 68,000 miles, engine done 5,000 miles ago, Trust ss exhaust, coilovers, HKS bov, few minor jobs needed, a real car for Corsa money. £2,350. ono No

Spoke to the guy selling it - says he\'s not a trader just buys and sells lots of cars... hmmm? (a trader then...) despite the car having a jap spec front bumper (as the last guy hit a dog which screwed the bumper up - and what else methinks?) and a few minor red paint fading etc he says its \'mint\' - however something is telling me if it sounds too good to be true then it usually is.... it has sunroof, cruise, leather rev counter only goes up to 7,000rpm. Is it a UK model or what they call a UK spec import?

Am thinking of taking a look tomorrow - advice appreciated on what to look out for...

Cheers

Craig

Apparently he got it from some guy up in Scotland - so not sure who could have done the work? I wouldn\'t think it was done by anyone reputable being the price it is...

Looks very cheap - I\'d be suspicious.

\'Few minor jobs\' probably means engine rebuild :2eek

I\'m now in manchester - how do I change my details?

I\'m curious - its only 30 odd miles from me - wouldn\'t hurt to have a look I guess? Basic things to look out for I guess are suspicious looking smoke on startup/overheating - there\'s quite a lot - any biggies to be aware of that would point directly to rebuild? Can\'t rule out accident damage either... hmmm

I think you topic title says it all

"Too good To Be True"

With the spec you listed it seems to be one of only around 154 UK cars, making it even more iffy.

You may have found a bargain but I\'d get a proper specialist to go over it b4 parting with an cash.

How can you tell it has a jap spec front bumper, the only difference would be the number plate mount and that looks uk spec to me.

Jap spec or not, it is a good deal.

I can see its the \'efini\' badge when I put it into photoshop. The guy told me its had a new bumper. You\'re right tho it has UK style numberplate.. Confused - sounds even more dodgy...

Easy way to tell if it is a UK model, is look at the VIN number. If it is, it\'ll be "JMZ FD13B2 00 ******" (*=number)

Jap ones start with FD and then a number.

To be honest - even if it does need a rebuild its still worth the money!

Bloody hell, that is just depressing seeing it sell for less than £2500.

i rang thismorning and it had gone, id seen it around once or twice, it was a bloke from the lache that owned it, so im supprised he had it so long without it getting nicked lol, personally i think hes an idiot for selling ti so cheep, like the old ford crew did we should be pushing prices up not doing stupid things like that

Oh well I guess someone\'s got a bargain whether as a working car or for bits... <£2.5K for a UK 95 plate - guess he didn\'t know what he had or it was truly needing a rebuild...
