Well Came sooner than i thought !!!
Was Ment to be Going down to Newquay this weekend so thought id give the Car a quick check over to make usre Oil/Water all ok - Water was a little down so i topped that up Checked the Oil Level all seemed fine just under the Fill Line so i thought id top it up took the Cap off and Found it to be all cloudy/milky like a Baileys inside of the Cap.
it wasnt like this about 4 weeks ago, so i guess the water seal has gone ???
Im not going to even think about driving it as i dont want to cause any un neccessary damage.
Just to confirm that when the seals go this is what happens ???
any other info appreciated :D
Has the car been sat for a while since you last used it? If it has, it\'s been quite wet recently so might be a small chance that it\'s condensation.
Other than that im afraid it does point to a blown water seal, same happened to mine the other year.
If your not driving the car for a while now, I suggest starting it up every now and again, as this will help clear any water from inside the rotar and help prevent further damage from rust and/or pitting of the rotar housing.
Sorry to hear it\'s like this, but look on the bright side, it\'s a good excuse to make it better than it was before! :D
Im going to to be rebuilding it Myself !!!! gunna be a challenge but suppose it will be worth it plus i get to know my Car inside out :D :D
Luckily i have my other Car to Boost around in !!! so i can take my time and get everything Sorted Properly, no need to rush it.
bit of mayo is normal....depends how much you had
Not Loads just a bit on the Cap, i canne see any down the pipe
what cause\'s the little bit of mayo/creaming ???
obviously water ?
as said before, possibly condensation. Pull the spark plugs and see if theres any water on them. How does the car start?
Car Starts Like Normal, a bit of idle Hunting for about 10 seconds then all Fine,
i was just worried that if i did start drive it i might cause more damage to the other internal stuff ?>
As said above, a little mayo is fine, and nothing to worry about. If you\'re worried about the seals, you nead to check for other sympoms. But if you\'re not losing water, then it can\'t be water seals, can it!? :D (Only a little down from normal is also probably nothing to worry about)
Teighto, you can drive it, its normal. If its not using water there is no problem.
Its caused by the oil system having to breathe via the manifold ( for emissions control). Condensation forms on the cap or even in the manifold, and then you get that oozy creamy stuff forming. On older cars, the breather just went to atmosphere, and we never had this effect.
I get the same effect on my year old RX8, its the nature of the rotary engine design. There is a mod for the RX8 to stop it forming, but if there\'s no water loss then you know it\'s not a major issue and you can ignore it.
Bob
yes, normal - mine does it a bit, especially when left for a while. try the "champagne bubble test" if you\'re still worried.
Good News Good News :) :)
i think you should panic - clearly the head gasket has gone!!! LOL
seriously tho - a little bit is normal. like the others say you would probably be loosing coolant if a seal had gone, usually from what i gathered you get lots of smoke when its running.
It usually gets worse in the cold weather. A good long run will clear it up.
Cool At least i can Drive it now without worrying as much as usual :D :D
Robbie ya get my email Yesturday ?
would a catch tank stop mayo from forming?
Quote from: interloper393would a catch tank stop mayo from forming?
If you had a vent to atmosphere, yes, I am pretty sure it would.
yes mate, i got it all ready for ya
Top Man :D
i hate reading posts that state the enevertable happening, i hate them baaad! lol
on a lighter note if anyone needs a story to cheer them up i remebered when i went to dorset in mine i stopped in a garage and whilst looking thru the oils they had on offer i picked up castrol gtx mieral oil, and put it on the counter, the guy behind the counter piped up in his heavy southern farm type voice and said \'you\'ll need better oil than that in your sports car\' to which i said i have to use mineral oil, he then added \' you need synthetic oil to look after your big ends and cam shafts when your driving it hard\' i said it hasnt got big ends or cam shafts adding it hasnet even got pistons\'....
as you can imagine with a bellow of laughter he said \'son iv been in the motortrade for 30years, everycar has pistons, cams bigends, and i know what oils best for an engine\' (i didnt know working in a petrol station counted as the motortrade) with that i told him it was a rotory engine.... which was replied with a \'what???\' so i left the shop with mineral oil and he would have been sat there making comments to himself about that crazy northen kid, i could see him in the local that night telling all his mates about me whilst drinking cider and chewing straw
hope that brought a ray of happyness to your lifes, as it makes me laugh everytime i think about it
