Try and get Bluecol. It\'s done me proud over the years. Ask a car shop to try and get it for you. Use at 40% with 60% water.

Good advice David, that\'s the stuff!  distilled water is good move also, as is draining the block, but bit of a sod refilling!

Any decent motor factors will sort you out with the water, mine was from sprint bay in Shaftesbury and from memory was about £3+vat for 5L.

I use halfords stuff which is a orange colour and to be honest i haven\'t had any problems touch wood and my car has done 58.000 miles on original engine.:)

By the colour of this it sounds like the cheaper antifreeze be very careful as it turns acidic with age. All antifreeze solutions should be changed on a 2 yearly basis anyway. If you can get one that is ethelene glycol based they are normally blue or green in colour then you can\'t go far wrong as for mix ratio i normally go 50:50.

I am about to chuck some Elf coolant in tomorrow ..... never used it before ....

My buzzer went off today but as I had already started the car didn\'t want to switch it off to fill up as was worried about flooding by switching off while still in cold start up phase.

the halfords ready-mixed pink (summer) stuff is now proper ethylene glycol based, i\'ve never had a problem cant be rsed with mixing and getting distilled water etc, i change it every 6 months though.

gently rev to abouth 4k than turn off the ignition and press fimly on the accelerator until it stalls - no more fuel in the block = much less chance of flooding.
