Title: Swapping car aerial
Post by: RedRummy on August 08, 2007, 03:36:54 PM
If I buy a new car aerial for my FD, and it has a wierd kind of connector, can I just cut the connector and wire it in by hand (soldering iron etc)... I\'m guessing its just a matter of connecting 2 wires or something right?

PS - not worried about the mechanical retractable aerial, just the normal aerial stubby type.

Theres one mounted in the rear window, so you can remove it completely if you wanted.
other than that you wouldnt need to solder anything as there will be no power going to the new ariel if its not a retractable.

oh, so if I got a fixed aerial and stuck it in the hole where the retractable one was, i\'d only need to connect the reception lead?

if there\'s one in the window, whats the point of the retractable one?  :)

yeah should just be the reception lead as theres nothing else to power as theres no retractable mechanism.

Not sure why its there :Laugh  but iv used the one in the rear screen and removed and smoothed the ariel on the rear wing.
