Title: Bleep? Screetch? ???
Post by: Matts-gen2 on August 07, 2007, 10:01:32 AM
The last week more so, but for some time now when i dropped down a gear, say to take a roundabout fast i had an intermittent screetching noise.

At first I thought it was one of the various warning noises/bleeps, because it was only a quick on and off.

I recently learnt how to make the noise i.e. what rev range and gear, and upon listening closely, it was definately not a bleeping noise.

I read the handbook and made sure it wasnt any of the buzzers, oil, coolant etc.

All fine.

Then checked belts, BINGO!!!

The power steering belt was loose, u could practically turn it over 360*.

Loosened pulley bolt, adjusted tightened again.

Well,

Now the car pulls alot, lot better.  I think there was secondary strain being put on the other belt and pulley.

There was a lumpyness when changing gears before, like a slight hesitation, but its all gone.

Car feels much happier.

I apoligise for babbling but Im really happy i sourced the problem and car feels alot better.
