Title: Mazda 2 import from HK, failed SVA test on Speedo showing in KM only.
Post by: Tin on August 06, 2007, 10:10:39 AM
Hi,
Can anyone help.
I imported a Mazda 2 from Hong Kong, and after going through a tourtuous course to get it passed the MOT test, if then failed the SVA test on the Speedometer which was only showing in Kilometers.
What is the quickest, and cheapest way of getting a conversion, or is there a fascia for the speedo I could get to pass the SVA test?
I have tried a firm on the net that produces these fascias, but they do not have one for my car. A specially made would cost over £350.00, which I think a Bit too high, as a ready made one cost only £25.00.
I have also tried the Speedo calibration people but they do not do this job.
Can anyone help?

I bought a converter from REWORX, for, I think , about £35 or something. You will have to splice it into the wiring yourself, though. Then just get a tiny piece of black tape, and stick over the "K" in Km/h.

Quote from: MartinyWAIT ---- Actually, does the MOT tester test the CALIBRATION of the speedo? I would think not..

When I had my kit car SVA\'d the calibration was tested from 0-70mph - best do the whole job anyways :)

Hey Ricco - you were too quick, I deleted that part of my post after I realised the title says  "SVA", I thought it said MOT. :-)

Also, just realised now that the title says Mazda 2. But, still, it\'s worth trying one for the FD.

But, where to get a Mazda 2 wiring diagram ! ?

lol sorry mate! :wave :chat

Im afraid I dont know how to do a \'normal\' car.  The Westie was purely a case of working out the distance the wheel and tire setup was, doing a sum and entering a number into the speedo - was too easy!

Thanks, I emailed the guys at Reworx and hopefully they will be able to help me.
Meanwhile my mechanic is chasing up with another contact of his to see if he can recalibrate the speedo. All I can see is Cash registers clinking up.

Tin, try the Mazda World forum, someone on there might have a wiring diagram at least.

:Thumbs-upHi everyone,
I finally got my Mazda 2 SVA retested today, and passed it without any problems!!
My car had failed the SVA test the first time because the speedo was in KM and not in MPH. I just chanced to go to ebay and found this guy who sold a speedo sticker in mph where you cut out the numbers and stuck them against the corresponding speed in km. It \'only\' cost £10.00, dear but worth it, but it did the job. The guy at the test station had a look at it and said: - It is a stick on job?, at this point I thought the worse, but he then added that it was ok. I passed after he carried out the speed calibration test.
So, anybody want to save money, and can do some diy then try this guy at ebay, saved me ££££s.

Thanks, but first I still have to get it insured, registered, taxed, zzzzzzzzz...
Once all the formalities are done with, then I will start enjoying the car. Thanks for the good wishes anyway.
