okey can anyone help me here my aircon is driving me nuts i had it regassed because it is cold for a few minutes then goes the same temp as outside air the fans start and the compressor kicks in running all the time at first but after a long drive seems to kick in and out every 20 seconds or so also the revs drop and rise while its doing this but still hot air any ideas anyone?
no one had similar problems with this or might have a idea where to start with it?
Mines not great either! Same problem, it kicks in for a (very) short time, then just sort of...gives up! Not good on the drive back from Santa Pod at the weekend! V. V. Hot!
It\'s normal for the revs to drop and rise when the ac is on. It only comes on for a few seconds then goes off again to save on fuel. If it\'s blowing warm air, then soz but i don\'t know what\'s wrong. Mine was blowing warm air so i removed it completley from the car
ive had this with mine if it on speed 1 or 2 does it stay on for a longer time or does is cut in and out
i have found that if i open the bonnet start the car from cold and sit there with it just idling it stays cold so its after things start to heat up under the bonnet it goes pete tong

much like alison said if i go off for a drive it starts cold then just dissapears
coz if it stays cut in then out it the fan switch not passing the earth through correctly poss not at all on 3/4 due to wear i put some switch cleaner inside and it now works ok but! these car are not the best for ac the windows work alot faster lol:flamed
we might just as well take it off it saves weight and then more fuel till u put your foot down

ill give the switch a clean see if that helps :Thumbs-up thing is when it does work its fooking cold just does not last for long thats all

try opening your bonnet when the cars stone cold and just letting it idle with the aircon on see if it stays on let me know if it works just want to know if yours is the same as mine might be something that others have same problem with

mine works ok now i fix the switch but when it all up to norm tep its not worth it coz the heat from the sun and the engine it cant keep it cold when you get :driving on the move its fine now on all fan speeds

Yeah I\'ll have a go tomorrow and let you know!

It gets a bit sweatty in this hot weather mate:flamed . Im putting mine back on
It sounds like you\'ve got too much gas in there, I had a similar problem with mine when I first had it regassed and the air-con guy and I diagnosed that the compressor was cutting out as the pressure was too high.

thats possible i never noticed the compressor cutting in and out intill it was regassed and the compressor seems to run all the time if i leave the bonnet open and just idle maybe the heat under the bonnet is making the gas expand and raising pressure to much?
ive got ac regassing machine i try to lower the level of gas then try and let you all no what the gas weight is ie it should be 600g
as its not going to cost me other than time
weird after a bit of messing around ie putting some more gas in then letting a load out because the pressure got kinda high and a bit of smoke came out of my compressor:Hammer tryed it again on the way home and it was blowing -1.1 degrees at me sure it wont last though im now thinking its something to do with the pressure switch or pressure of gas if i link it out the compressor runs all the time with no cut out
mine worked all weekend at santapod while i was using the car as a body cooling machine lol
Mine will run slightly cooler when i leave the bonnet open as suggested, still not cold enough though me thinks....
if its not to good and dont blow cold for long, it needs regassing, altho some of the older rex\'s like mine have diffrent gas in them that is no longer available, and have been told (not 100%) that its now illigal, you can get adaptors to put the new gas in them but it eats the seals out of the pump...so iv been told
hi, the early fd (92/93) run on r12 gas which was banned as it kills the ozone, later ones run on r134a, they use different oils in the system which is why you cant just refill an r12 system with r134- it will destroy the compressor.
you can buy an adative which will allow the r134 gas to be used, but the proper route is for the system to be cleaned of the r12 style oil and re filled with the proper grade oil for r134 gas. when running the system should cycle in and out as it regulates the pressure to keep optimum temp - time running will depend on factors like outside temp, how fast the blower is running if you have it on re-circ ect. some systems are just more efficient than others and haveing it set on centre vents, medium speed and setting the air to re-circ will help alot(so you dont pull in warm air from outside). also keeping the windows closed helps. if you take it for a regas the dealer should be able to moniter the system working with a high and low pressure gauge - this will tell him if it is ok or if there is a problem. jon.

mines never worked, went to get it sorted and was told could not use the old type gas and would have to convert it to take new, so left it and use windows :Laugh
