Title: Where to get hold of C-Spanners? Oh, and ride hight q
Post by: RemarkLima on August 05, 2007, 09:46:08 AM
Hey all,

Does anyone know where I can get a set of C Spanners, or just the one really, ideally today?

I\'ve got my suspension all refurbed and fitted now, just trying to set the ride hight.

Also do most people have preload on the springs or do most have it so the spring is loose when the car is jacked up?

Cheers,
Mark

Guys! You are all legends!

I think Fish may have it, I\'ll only need a borrow just to get it all set up 100% level then I don\'t see myself changing it ;) It\'s OK at the moment, certainly drivable, it feels pretty good as a rough setup goes.

Thanks again all, really appreciated!

Fish, you have PM :D

Out of interest what heights have you gone for? I was recommended to go for 25 ins front and back.

That\'s from the floor to the wheel arch?

I\'ve just measured from the centre of the wheel hub to the wheel arch and made sure they\'re the same side to side and it\'s a little lower than it was... Once I get the C spanners I\'ll be a lot more accurate ;)

Yep, from the floor to the wheel arch. Although I\'m not sure what that is compared to the standard ride height.

I\'d like it a little lower, which isn\'t too hard as the standard ride hight seems pretty high!

But I\'m a bit torn between how to do it, on the one hand I\'d like to preload the springs by raising the spring platform, this means the springs have some tension in even when jacked up but most importantly, give the car the full length of the damper when on the ground.

On the other hand, and they came off like this, I could lower the spring platform there by lowering the where the spring sits, get full travel of the spring (they\'re fixed rate by the looks of them) but the length of the damper will be shorter before hitting the bump stops.

What to do? At the moment they\'re loose when jacked up, and it rides OK, but I feel preloading the springs would be a better way...

..Thoughts anyone?

Helper springs?

Just had a read up on helper springs, and while they\'ll keep the spring platform in contact with the spring, you\'d still be loosing some damper length right?

And surely it\'s best to keep as much damper stoke as possible! I never a fan of riding on the bumpstops ;)
