Title: Sludge in coolant
Post by: JohnnyP on August 02, 2007, 07:39:55 PM
Hi. Have owned my fc for a few weeks now. Starts first time hot or cold, no excessive smoke or steam, rebuilt less than 2000 miles ago. I\'m doing a track day on monday at Bedford and thought I would check my fluids. Pulled the coolant filler cap off and there was a big clump of brown sludge on the cap:eek:  The coolant feels oily but hard to tell what it is. Any ideas?

if its a film of sludge i would say just dirt etc nothing to worry about.

flush it before track day then check it after and you have your answer.

Thanks for that. Is it ok to flush with tap water then fill with distilled water/antifreeze?

yes fine, alternatively you can use radiator flush from a motor factors but plain water is fine.
