Hi guys,
Been thinking about doing it for a while know and finally went ahead with it lol
Picked up a Black 35k 1992 Gen 3 Version 1 for good money (not telling :Nono! )
You might know the car H1 9EXX (Meant 2b HI SEXY) - i\'m not 2 fused either lol. But if you know of the car please fill me in :-)
The body work aint bad - 3 tiny dings here and there but overall nice.
It has the RX8 rims (new) - lots of chrome and blue under the bonnet. In with the deal i ended up having the bigger intercoolers and more chrome and induction kit (he called them SU\'s or something).
He was a nice guy but know doubt i dont know everything about the car yet.
But one thing i do know - Fu*k it was fast when i was drivin it home lol!!
Questions:
Does the RX8 gearknob and gaitor fit the rx7?
Is my car a type r lol it had the red strut brace - yellow fogs - twin oil coolers - rear seats - what else should i look for?
Oh yeah - i bought the car from a guy called Adam in Stoke-on-trent - think he imports loads of cars.
Welcome to the club bud, get some pics of her up! i think the best way to check to see what you have is look on the sticker in the door :wiggle
The Guy imported it himself and didnt really think he\'d ever sell it. This is why i have such a lack of info on the car.
The Logbook states (rx7) and thats it lol - when i asked the guy he said \'i dont think it is\' but i was told what to look for and it matches the type r :-s - Is the any site i can type in the VIN number and it will bring up all the car details from factory?
hello and welcome on the inside of the drivers door is a sticker it will tell you what model it is :)
Hi jim/Leon - i think all the stickers r in Japanese lol
it will still say what it is, even though its in jap. :Thumbs-up although to be honest it may not make that much of a differance what it is (due to modifications replaceing what was actualy a feature on that model etc) I may be not seeing pictures due to filtering at work. but if you havnt get some up.
if it has rear seats,Cloth front seats,Twin oil coolers,No sunroof,Red Badge on the back your looking at an R or R1
Welcome to the Club :)
Just take it easy for a bit until you get the hang of the car, these things do handle well but they can Bite you in the back side REALY!!! hard if you over cook it.
Yup thats it Grizzly - it has all thoughs.
My last few cars have been:
Elise S1 160
e36 M3 Evo
Mr2 turbo
So i am getting used to the RWD - Thou you are right like the mr2 they are dangerous in the wet and unpredictable when they wanna be.
Does anyone know what sort of bhp it might be?
It has a full exhaust system,
bigger intercooler and full induction kit, baileys dump valve
So no major mods but surely more than standard - i think i read up that the exhaust alone made a big difference in power on these cars?? lol knowing me i\'m wrong though hehe

This is the picture on the advert - only picked it up yesterday and its p*ssing down today lol - but i\'ll get better pics soon!
I belive the stock r/r1 is 260hp at the Flywheel, if i was you i\'d be looking at getting a Power Fc (if it doesn\'t already have one) Fd\'s don\'t usaly like to be Decatted with a free flowing exhaust as the Boost target pressure tends to Fluctuate.
Plus if you get a PFC and have it set up you will get better MPG and it will have smoother power delivery.
As for your Mods yes all the mods you have will make a Diffrence but unless its set up by some one who knows what there doing you may not see the true Potental of those mods.
It did have a Apexi Controller on it but the guy gave it to his mate - but how much do they usually cost?
So it\'s got the power fc ecu but not the handheld remote (commander)
Is it decatted? If it is then expect about 320+bhp at the flywheel
:-( I dont know sorry Robbie - I\'d love it if one of you guys lived near the Caerphilly (south wales) area as you could come over and have a good look for me :-)
Put it this way Robbie - my M3 Evo was 321bhp and this would P*SS all over it - but i guess power to weight is a big thing aswel - but its def Sub 5 to 60 and my elise was 4.9 and it feels fast than that.
It\'s more than likely got the pfc then. You say your mate took it out, i bet he took just the commander and left the ecu in. You dont really need the commander, but it\'s nice to have because it displays a lot of information such as peak boost, water, air temp etc. You can buy them seperate but you need to know the model number of your apexi ecu. It is located in the footwell by the glovebox
http://www.rx7.net.nz/jpnspc.htm (http://www.rx7.net.nz/jpnspc.htm) - I always thought all the rx7\'s 280bhp standard but it look more like 260 :-s
There is a Card in the Glove box saying what the Apexi serial number is etc :-)
Only the very late 1999-2001 rx7\'s were 280bhp. All the rest are 255, and the uk and usa spec are about 235bhp due to the precat
Well i\'ve just texted the guy and he said he sold both items together - ecu and the controller :-( - i\'m fully shocked if my car is only pushing 270\'ish bhp as it fells faster Alot faster.
That was Nice of him :( You really need to put the PFC back on.
Trust me if you have a quickish Fd (on stock twins that would be 300rwhp at about 1 bar) you and every one around you will know its quick ;)
You will soon find that every time you drive the Fd it puts a Big grin on your face but the fuel it uses will unfortunatly it gives your bank manager a Nerves Brake down.
Serious mate, get a Power FC back on and get it mapped corectly ASAP. If its running a straight through system, without cat and with filters it may be prone to det.
Better safe than sorry and all that :)
Chris
Your sitting on a timb bomb with the stock ecu and an open exhaust system. Is it decatted?? As said above, it\'s just waitng to blow if the cat is removed and you give it some boost. I wonder why he sold the pfc?. Could you not ask to buy it back because it might already have the optimal map for your car?
Well his mate bought another RX7 a few months ago - he said it was running 315bhp at the wheels - so i guess his mate jumped at the chance in having it off him.
No i dont think its de-catted - just has a full system from cat back i\'m guessing. The intercooler and filters are not on the car at the moment as they was already taken off. By the sounds of it the guy probably knew the problems it might cause after he took the pfc off.
So how much is a PFC and who local to me can re-map it?
Did he mention anything of uprated injectors or fuel pump? It sounds strange that you say it pi$$es over your other car, but it\'s 255bhp+-
As for the pfc, i got mine from nengun http://www.nengun.com/ It was the cheapest i could find at the time. The closest tuner to you is carl at hayward rotary. Check the adverts at the top of the page

reading that his last car was an MT2 turbo..... 255 bhp would **** over it. I have an MR2 turbo played with a little as a run around and my RX absolutly destroys the MR2 - i really dont have to try!

Ok, to get 315Hp at the Wheels you would have to have a Big fuel pump and an Aftermarket Fuel Regulator (dead give away) basicly to improve the Efficancy of the stock injectors you raise the rail pressure which in turn allows you to then raise the boost to anywhere between 1 and 1.2 bar. If you have a boost gauge and it doesn\'t go above 10psi or about .7 bar your running stock Boost.
have a look to see if there is one of these fitted
My MR2 had a Hybrid turbo and walbro 255 fuel pump and 544 injectors - it was running 296bhp (fly) - my m3 was 321bhp standard and elise was bell & colvill 160 upgrade.
All on paper should have better power-weight ratio - but it just dont.
There is no boost gauge on the car Grizzly and yes 0.7 bar is what its going upto.
as an example a guy i know has a Light weight Mr2 with simalar sort of power to yours and even though its quick i\'ve seen an Fd pull away from it quite easly with the same mods as yours just set up on a PFC running 13psi.
As for the Bmw don\'t they weigh like 1500kg? i have never raced one but if that is the weight and 320hp at the flywheel you should give one a good race in a stock/Lightly moded fd.

Sounds like it was proberly at 315 at the Flywheel an hes got it mixed up, 315 at the wheels you would defo know about (you would not be even saying M3,Mr2 or Elise in the same sentence)
My advice would be find out what fuel pump it has on it (stock or uprated and what Make/size) then if you have that covered buy a Decent Fuel reg and PFC then get it set up by a Pro for about 12-13 psi and you will be very happy, in the mean time try and not hammer it until you get the fuel sorted.
I Totally agree Grizzly
