Title: building a fortune RX - any more on here?
Post by: jamie_supra on July 29, 2007, 09:54:20 PM
Just wanted to know if there are any fortune kitted RX7s on the site?
any issues with fitting the kit?
I am currently building one.
Car is currently a rather battered FD in green  - it wernt worth buying a mint one as every pannel is going to be replaced / covered except the roof - ( its going to be gloss black and pearl white).Engine is good - has been rebuilt 4000miles ago and only has 40000 on the clock anyway. chassis is straight under the body.It has a T60 single conversion, 4" straight through de - cat\'d exhaust, apexi power fc + commander, blitz boost controller and turbo timer, HKS front mount with custom hard pipes, Tien adjustables all round, Interior has racing bucket seats in cream and black leather and cream dash. also had a roll cage fitted.
Kit is payed for and on the way direct from veilside.
also got some I forge 3 peice split rims on the way 19" by 12".

yeah - seen a few but they are way over priced. also got offered veilsides bentley blue one from japan for £16k but with shipping and VAT and duty it was more like 23k!!. also i was worried as to the condition of them. were there scuffs? damaged wheels? i even saw one pic with a space saver on!!.
also i wanted a car to my spec. plus i wanted a single turbo one with a few toys!!

front wings
fibreglass vented bonnet (real good quality)
front bumper (little scuffed etc)
back bumper
electric mirrors
stock alloys in MINT condition with good tyres
rear dump bins unit(as opposed to back seats)
then put them onto me!

well it would have been. but i got the base car at a bargain price. seats were £300 (good old ebay)
the kit is very expensive  in the UK. but with the dollar being worthless i have got the wheels ( hand made 19" by 12" offset -34 on the rear and 19" by 9 inch on the front offset -6) and the kit inc shipping for £7200!!! obviously there would be duty but its being sent over as \'gift\'

Quick question though, why are the pods in the exterior pic of the car black and then on the interior shot cream coloured? :xconfused

lol - supra was fitted by a mate. this is being done by clays in milton keynes!
supra had issues that it was totally carbon fibre so it wasnt possible to fill over and paint imperfections / cracks. or gaps for that matter. also i had lambos which didnt really fit - again the only way was to move the front wings forward.
but dont worry - this is having a propper bodyshop do it.

saying that... was the supra that bad? it sold for £18500 and now its up for sale  (NEW OWNER) FOR £21995!!

The supra wasnt to my taste, carbon is hard to work with though your right.

Clays have a good reputation though so you should be in safe hands.

Sounds like this will be a better finished car i know you took a lot of stick on the supra site with the last one.  You seem to be doing it right anyway with a decent width of rim etc etc.

As long as your happy with the final result though you shouldnt really care what other people think.

What colour comination you going for, are you going for a two colour style that most go for with this kit?  There are some photoshopped combinations on this site somewhere if you were looking for inspiration.

yeah - but i didnt get on with the supra site..... and it was a few vocal individuals.  I accept the issue the supra had with the width but i tried to have some made (14" by19") and it was £2000 per wheel !! thats why spacers went on it.
i want this to be perfect though and i got a good deal on the wheels!!

Colour scheme.... didnt want anything too \'in ya face\' so rather than the bright orange or yellow colour schemes i have decided on a two tone.... back and pearl white. that shoul;d go nicely with the interior scheme.

lol - i found the pics you refered to. they were photoshopped by my m8 adam for me!  i also see that pigme boy has been on here. He came on street-legal several months ago saying he was building one of these. ( he doesnt even have a licence lol) and guess what.... still no fortune kit and no rx7.

I\'m glad you mentioned you are having 12" wide on the back and 9" wide on the front, for a second I thought you were having 12" inch all round!!

Best of luck with this, it should be a hell of a car when it\'s finished, looks like you have plenty of dosh to see it through, you should think about a 20b once youve got the body sorted....

i knew it was you with that supra but didnt want to guess (im on the supra forums)

please dont take this the wrong way as its not a dig but that supra was the absolute most badly modified jap car i have ever come across in my entire life. I am glad you are taking a different route with this one as your "mate" needed shooting rather than paying for the supra job.
i was tempted to tell you at each of the events i saw you/the car at but not in a stupid having a go way just wanted to know how the bodykit managed to end up being fitted that wrong.

But as has been said eye of the beholder an all that plus you got a very good price for it at the end of the day.

if you get this one done properly it should look absolutely fantastic plus under it all its a damn good car too.

anyway this sounds worse than its meant i just had the feeling all the tme you had the supra that way that you had been ripped off by a bodyshop and would never sell it but i think you did ok in the end.

btw what made you choose the rx7 & the fortune kit?

would like to chat to you about the car as there is loads of stuff on it - none of which the previous owner knows about!.

some people dont like the supra but an aweful lot do!!! i agree that the gaps ent ideal but as i said earlier there was no way to remove them. as every pannel is covered or replaced with silver weave carbon its not like its possible to just filler it!!.
In the end though i made a lot of ££ on that car - which is normally unheard of on modded cars.the kit was only £2k and all the fitting and spraying etc was £1k total!
anyway enough of the carbon supra.

as for what made me choose an RX. well i owned one in the past and loved it (except the reliabiltiy). saw the fortune car on tokyo drift and fell in love! after the supra i had an EVO VIII FQ330 - and it just wasnt me.... so decided to build a fortune RX of my own.

Here\'s some inspiration for you.. These are pictures of the actual main film car, complete with TO4Z, Nitrous, etc. It\'s not for sale. It\'ll be going to a specialist collector in Australia. These aren\'t the professional quality pics, only those I took with my own camera. Shortly, there will be features appearing in mags of this car.

The girl who modelled for us is Hiromi, the leading D1 Racequeen in Japan.

Still got one other one of these Fortune FD\'s. Not sure if we\'ll sell it or keep it though! :D :Santa

Enjoy!
