ok, basically i think my water seals went today, loads of white smoke out the exhaust, loss of power, no warning whatsoever and now the car won\'t start at all, i can hear both rotors turning over but it just won\'t start. I managed to push it to a nearby friends house but she\'s going no further. So basically i need to know will it involve an engine rebuild or is it just a case of replacing the seals and i\'m good to go. Also is there anyone near wolverhampton that could do the job for me that fancies making a bit of extra cash?, someone that really knows their stuff. any help massively appreciated. cheers.:(

rebuild time indeed :(
Minimum youll need is a new water seal kit. Thats 160 iirc. Also, you may well find yourself needing a new plate as itmay have cracked the groove on a plate..if so thats an additional 150 for a used plate and whatever it costs to match the porting..maybe 80 quid? Also if youre engines overheated, it might be a good idea to replace the springs as they can lose their "spring" when overheated!
Whatever you do, just make sure you do the job right and replace the right bits! Bodge it up and it will bite you hard!
It is best to replace all seals and as much as possible,don\'t just do water seals.
Regards
Carl
so how much are we talking all up? s\'\'t i\'m upset.:reallymad
Seal damage usually will require engine rebuild chap sorry.
Theres always plenty of people willing to help if you decide to do it yourself, JohnF\'s based in Solihul west mids, will most likely be along shortly to introduce himself :Party
sorry to hear it mate but stick with it, you will learn loads and come out a happy man with a fast car and loads more confidence!
best of luck.
if you want it done well and an engine to last, then realistically, youre probably looking at 2.5k to 3k... depending on how bad it is :(
Whip the motor out yourself, strip it down to the block and get it to a tuner for a rebuild would be my advice.
Best price is probably RX motors, but they do not do tuning.
amazing thing happened today, in fact i\'d class it as a minor miracle. After leaving the rex sat in all this lovely sunshine for almost 2 weeks, she started perfectly today, and is running spot on aswell, no white smoke, all temps fine and its as though nothing ever happened!. has the sun/dry weather just dried out a flooded engine? before she would\'nt even start yet alone be driveable so i\'m searching for explanations as to what happened?...:Party
LOL an FD that mends itself!!! LOL dammnnnnn u must be in the twilight zone!
Are you coming to rotorstock tommorrw then?
lol, yes she mended herself, i\'ve now nicknamed her christine! those of you who have seen the film will know why, lol!. no i can\'t make rs4 tmrw, its my old dear\'s 60th b\'day bash which is a bit inconsiderate of her i know, she has been reprimanded accordingly, lol.:chat
Christine, what a film. Never mind fella

exactly what you said mate, dried out. :Thumbs-up
sounds like it was only flooded! At the very least, get some new sparkplugs!
Whoa! hold on a minute, i may have been a bit hasty here. I took her out again today & got 200 yards down the street in second gear & she started to sound like the old VW beetles used to sound, i had no power whatsoever, so i coasted for around 10 seconds & then re-applied the accelerator & she burst back into life. all is fine til second gear is engaged, i don\'t know about 3rd 4th & 5th, too scared to take the car more than a mile away from home. Is this still the drying out process? all temps & fluids are spot on still. just guessing now, injectors?, plugs?,fuelling related?, ecu related?, bit sick of this emotional roller coaster now:confused:
Deffo sounds like you hit a puddle with all that rain..water splashed onto the block causing the steam...water splashed onto the plugs causing the cut out...and you flooded it when trying to start it with the wet plugs...i would deffo change those plugs mate then hopefully happy days:D
