Title: Car Starting Issues (NOT FLOODED)
Post by: Sideways Steve on July 26, 2007, 07:40:50 AM
Good Morning everyone!

Ok this is a bit of a long one but please please please help me!

I was at JAE at the weekend and all was well the journey there and back and moving about etc was all fine. When I got back to Scotland the car got parked up overnight as normal and the following morning I went out to head to work.

When I stuck the key in the ignition the Power FC done its usual thing and come up with my monitor settings however I noticed that the little beeper thing didnt sound that normally does when you turn your key to the on position.

Anyway I turned her over and there was nothing, it just kept turning over and over and over then when it had stopped the little idle valve thing under the plenum started buzzing really loud.

I switched it all back off and tried the same again..... Nothing

By this point I was running late so grasping at straws I done a reset on the PFC, switched everything off then back on and BINGO!! the beeping sound came back with the keys in and turned on. I turned it over and it fired straight away and has been running perfectly fine until last night.

I was down seeing some friends in Ayr and we went for a spin then parked up. When I tried to start the car again to go home it done the same thing as above however this time resetting the PFC has not worked.

I plugged back in my stock Ecu and instantly it fired up and is working again BUT as soon as the car sees any Boost pressure at all it starts misfiring and popping and banging like it would if it had a rev limiter :S

Im wondering if this is just because ive ditched all the rats nest stuff and the std ECU is looking for solenoids etc that are now disconnected so its gone into like a safety mode or something??

It really makes no sense and im lost!! Compression is good, car drives perfectly when its working and always starts whether hot or cold.

I cant help thinking it must be something electrical as the tell tale sign is this beeper thing not making a noise when you turn the key to on which it always does!

Anyone got any ideas?????

This buzzing noise. Can you get a pic of it?. I would disconnect it, plug your pfc back in and go from there. You have lost all your map settings on your pfc now, so that will need remapping. What mods are done to the car?

Map settings are not a problem as it was only running the base map for now anyway.

Engine mods are full non seq setup with decat, HKS filters, Re A exhaust, 0.75 bar boost, walbro fuel pump, air pump removed and all blanked off, dual throttle control removed and blanked.

As I said, the car has been running perfectly for a couple of weeks now and it only just decided to do this this week. the only thing thats changed recently is that I started running with my bung in the exhaust to silence it a bit.

The buzzing was coming from the ISV that is attached to the underside of the UIM at the throttle body side.

It only done it after trying to start up and doesnt do it with the std ECU as this allows me to start and drive (albeit off boost)

Also I forgot to say, with the PFC still fitted it does catch sometimes and fire up but then just cuts out straight away. It kinda sounds like its not getting fuel.

Also do you know what I mean when I speak about the beeping noise when you turn your ignition on?? why does it do that normally as it seems strange that its not doing that too?? is the beeping to tell you the fuel pump is priming the engine or something??

Yeah, i know what you mean with the beeper. It just tells you the keys are in or the lights are on. It does seem weird that it does not do it sometimes. I would imagine it might be something to do with the alarm immobiliser. It might also be worth trying another pfc.

I dont have an alarm or immobiliser fitted :S

its very strange as any time that beeper doesnt sound is when it wont start up.

Ive also checked my pfc for water ingress etc etc and its perfect commander shows everything working fine too.

Im totally stumped, the car is driveable on the std ecu as long as you keep it off boost but ive left it at home today as I dont like driving it when im not sure whats up.

No need to get mad mate, you will more than likely get a few more replies when folks finish work and stuff. To be honest i cant think of anything else you can try except try another pfc!

Did you buy the pfc from new or was it second hand......??

Mine is fitted wae an apexi, if you wanna try mine out just let me know.
