Hi,
I just wondered what I could do to increase the bhp of a standard 12a engine, I have been told a set of twin carbs will gain 150 bhp but what else can I do without going to the extreme of ripping the engine out.
thanks mark
All depends on the condition of the engine. How many miles has it done and what has been done to it ?
Choices are a free flowing exhaust and better carb.
I would have to say an increase of 150bhp sounds unlikely. Unless you stick a turbo on it.

I dont know for sure myself about gaining 150hp I read it on a rx7 website, I think if I dont go down the route of a full engine transplant I will put a set of r1 motor bike carbs on and see what i achieve with them.
The engine is mint this is why I am toying with the idea of tuning this one.
Any thing else I could do?
thanks mark
Ok, you need to start with sourcing a copy of "how to modify your RX-7" by Jim Downing. Its out of print but I am sure you\'ll find a 2nd hand copy somewhere.
I think what you read is that your proposed modification will INCREASE the power to 150, not add another 150.
The best sentence in that books states "you need a SYNERGISTIC approach" to your modifications. EG- you might get a few more hp by swapping the carb , but if you can mod the exhaust, and carb so they work well together, you are achieving a MUCH greater increase in power.
i just achived 150BHP with a 13b 4 port engine mild port and a weber 45, ditch the Thermal Reactor and get a racing beat or janspeed exhaust you should be able to get 150BHP from a 12a but i would of thought it would need pulling apart to improve flow

hya,
I ment I would be reaching a 150bhp with the carbs sorry for the miss understanding.
The exhaust has aready been done so hopefully I might.
thanks for the advice.
