Title: TO4 set up questions
Post by: rotorhead666 on February 01, 2004, 10:49:55 AM
Picked up a cheap to4 manifold on ebay for my 12a turbo-things like that don\'t turn up too often! Now for the questions- i know i\'m going to need an external wastegate, will i need an intercooler too?and what kind of boost can i run?it\'s only 6psi at the moment, and i don\'t know how much boost it will take comfortably(it has low compression rotors).and what air filter should i use,i love the hissing induction noise of my ramair. All this work isn\'t going to be carried out overnight,i know lots of you collect loads of parts first before fitting them!:) So maybe at some stage we\'ll have another 350 fb around. If she passes her mot first!:wave

You need to run with an intercooler, either air/air or water/air (more work and expense).

Intercoolers would be your best bet as they are easier to obtain and fabricate parts for.

What type of T04 is it? B, E, R, S???? Makes all the difference in the size of the I/C required to work properly.

Dont forget that you will also need an engine management system to run it all on. Microtech or Haltech would be best advised as you would make the loom to suit the application.

Any airfilter can be made to fit, just make sure that there is a good cold air feed to it. (Pipework to the front of the car ;))

I haven\'t got any parts for it yet, just the manifold on it\'s way-i thought it much wiser to find out as much information as i can before i get any parts. i\'m so looking forward to this project!I would have thought i would need to use a stronger gearbox, and i already have an Exedy clutch in mind.I don\'t want an on/off one like Tims!I\'ll hopefully get loads of information from the chap i\'m buying it from in Australia, maybe i can find out what set up he used to get 360bhp.Anything to beat my mates TVR Chimaera!

Intercooler is pretty cheap on their own.. I\'m actually getting a 25\'\' x 7\'\' one for my FD for less than £150... its getting someone who knows how to bend pipes and fit the thing thats gonna be a problem... also the radiator will have to be moved too I think:rolleyes:

I\'m currently making a hard pipe kit from 50mm polished stainless steel to suit a FMIC on a FD3S, I\'ll let you know/post pics when they\'re done.

What kind of 12A Turbo setup have you got now?
Is it a Elford Turbo? Or JDM 12A Turbo
We\'ve got a couple of Elford\'s and we are looking into building a "homemade" 12A Turbo setup. We\'re trying to modify the standard reactor to fit a T04 and going to use a Weber with or without IC.Not sure about that.

Looking forward to you "little project" ;)
