My car is fitted with an Apexi PS Revolution exhaust, apparently ultra stealth quiet at idle or when tootling around town, but when you boot it a baffle opens up and all hell breaks loose. Anyone got this exhaust?

Got a retired couple either side of me.  As you can imagine it aint great for parties, and it aint great for the car.

When I start her the curtains twitch, everytime.

Cleared some space outside the front of the house the other day and metioned to the lot on the other side I could fit at least two more cars outside the house, not impressed!  Where\'s the sense of humour!

Suppose with four cars to one house it may look odd, but they are on my land!!!

Rest of the naighbours are cool with it as the only unsocial hour i start it up is 8am on sat morning, rest of the time i drive £300 worth on deisel fiesta :D

From reading these posts one could argue that this attitude is one of the reasons the UK sucks - I\'m doing my thing if you don\'t like it tough.

Do you really think it\'s fair to make as much noise, be it from a car, house stero, party etc and stick two finger up to who ever might not share your tastes saying I\'m OK stuff you.

Just another viewpoint that\'s all.

HA HA,

No seriously when the RX arrived i told both neighbours i\'m really sorry as i didn\'t realise it was so loud until i bought it, the idea is to get a more silent exhaust on soonish so they were cool with it, and honestly so far have not complained.

I agree too. I don\'t like it when my neighbour\'s spoilt brat is screaming, neither do i like having to pick their cat **** off my garden daily (they have 3 cats...any need?) but i don\'t want to make myself a bad neighbour. If you drive carefully the last few miles home there is no need to idle the car for 5 mins outside. All you can do is just be reasonable and if they still don\'t like it, tough I guess. I know there is no pleasing some people.

I certainly agree about being considerate to your neighbours, I really don\'t like it if they\'re being noisy when I\'m trying to sleep! (Not that they ever are in fairness).

my garage is nearer my 2 neighbours than it is mine so the missues is happy with the noise not really asked the neighbours i have a roller garage door so i just shut her down about 2 foot of the floor and let it warm up there sure it sounds even louder in the garage but hay sounds better then there baby crying (which usually follows!!!)
think its give a take really, i didnt complain when they had a extension and my car was constatly covered in dust even in the garage (not that i was happy about it)

I\'m with johnf completly. For the first time since joining MRC from the old Mazda RX7 club, I\'m wondering what sort of people I\'m sharing the forum with. You all seem to help each other with information and advice yet you seem to be behaving with complete disregard for anyone else who wants to live in peaceful surroundings.

I think there are obviously two sides to this, and people are jumping to conclusions. The RX7 whichever way you look at it is a fairly loud car. As long as your not revving the tits off it at 3am then people can\'t really say much, as there is little you can do about it. If your a responsible driver and not a mindless idiot and your neighbours still complain, the reality of it is, it really is tough sh*t.

I couldn\'t agree more, the fact that people leave their car running in their driveways in a vague attempt to warm up or cool down before or after a run are ignorant of the benefits they think it achieves, and obviously have a complete disregard for others!
After 7+ years of FD ownership this is a sad attitude to see and another reason why these fantastic cars are depreciating so badly with people associating Jap cars with the chav culture and attitude of stuff everyone else

On a technical front, most of the issues that arise on FD\'s (baked solenoids, vac pipes and wiring) are from prolonged under bonnet heat soak, (sat in traffic or driveways with the engine running) the best way to cool a car is to drive conservatively for a few minutes after driving hard, the heat rejection at even fairly low speeds far exceeds that of a pair of electric fans! the airflow you get while driving gives additional cooling around the turbo\'s,  inlet and block, as well as cooling intake temps through the intercooler all of which cannot be achieved by a pair of small rad mounted fans.

The engine was designed for a production car, there is no need to sit in your driveway allowing it to warm up, a gentle drive to get things up to operating temp before ‘booting it\' is more than sufficient!

Ive never had a complaint on my street, but I never really sit with it running. The other half told me there isnt really any need as long as you drive it "normally" for a few mins if you have been giving it some on the rd.

What has happened though is my landlord lives across the road from me, and not long after I bought the car the lease on my house was due for renewal.. so he stuck the rent up by about an extra £50 a month. Cheeky sod, must think Im loaded or something now :Laugh.

Oh and I did by accident cover someone with the "steam"and stuff out the exhaust. it was a very cold morning and they were walking past the car as I started it up.. oops. i just forgot daft cow I am! :Laugh

I tell them its for the turbos, but if they want to chip in a couple of grand for a new set I\'ll happily shut it off immediately. They don\'t say much of that.

Besides if they want me to change my car I\'ll swap it for my Dad\'s 4.6 Litre V8 Cobra replica, THAT is a loud car...I think they\'d love it at 6:30am

I live in a block of 52 flats the complaints allways come from the same flat which is on the third floor I dont have a stick my fingers up and do what I want attitude some people are impossible and in my opinion if they have a real problem with noise you should not live in london on a high street if someone complains then do your best to compromise but if after you have done everything you can to please them and they still complain then I say **** them

I spoke to a policeman friend of mine after my neighbour said she was going to call the police.

He said if your car is as loud as it was when it came off the production line then they can\'t do anything and neither can the neighbour.

But if it has been modified and \'made\' louder they can take it further.

My advice keep them sweet as you can.

I\'ve got a curtain twitcher living next to me, but she is a diamond...... always waves & smiles..... but probably thinking thank god that noisy git has gone for a few hours...... then I come home & pull out the grinder @ 10pm!!!

i used to daily my FD a while back and my neighbours used my car as an alarm clock! Lots of families and old people where i live there a lot of posh snotty types here too. i swear down im like the fresh prince of Bessacarr! lol

the guy right opposite me had a go at me once for it. I spoke to him and apologised told him if i didnt warm it up it would pop and bang lots and i said most people are outta bed by 8am anyway!

Then a week later his son rocks up and walks over - big lad!!! i thought there was gonna be some trouble but in fact he had made the effort to come down and he wanted a look, then he showed me his car and he had spent thousands on a huge ICE install. he cranked it up MUCH louder than the FD!!!

i seldom drive the fd compared to how much i used to these days as i got myself a cute little polo to bomb about in and the neighbourhood is much quieter.

shame you lot have some ****** neighbours, be careful there might be sugar in your tank if you are a ****** back too many times.

heres an idea!!

maybe we should have a group buy on some of those active exhaust silencers???

It\'s not that I don\'t have any respect for other people etc, but both mine and the boyfriends every-day cars are not useable at the moment, so we\'ve got no choice but to use the RX for now. Obviously for going to work and back we would usually be using those!

Had a note on my car this morning asking not to let it idle every morning as it keeps waking "them" up (whoever them is). If I had the choice I would switch it off straight away.

So do you guys think that if I\'m careful just before I get home I won\'t have to wait a few minutes after I\'ve pulled up? Is that what you do?

Just don\'t drive on boost the last few miles and as soon as you get to your house you can switch the engine off.

There is absolutely no need to leave your car running to cool down, just drive carefully for a couple of miles before you get home.
This belief that any car needs to sit and run on your drive is rubbish, you are doing more harm than good to your engine!

The original reason for leaving cars running is derived from the race/rally scene, where you have a red hot glowing turbo from the race, if you turn the engine off, the oil which is sat in the turbo, boils, this then leaves carbon deposits within the lubrication section of the turbo, eventually blocking the oil galleries, starving the bearings of oil and destroying the turbo.
This was the idea and hence name of a ‘turbo timer’,  unless you are running at full boost, to the point you arrive at your doorstep, this is not required (if you are you are causing a lot of other issues due to mass heat rejection required)
I hope this helps clear this urban myth

Quote from: chrisThere is absolutely no need to leave your car running to cool down, just drive carefully for a couple of miles before you get home.
This belief that any car needs to sit and run on your drive is rubbish, you are doing more harm than good to your engine!

Me too, my car is very loud too (single turbo rex\'s are never quiet) but I dont leave it on the drive ticking over ever, just get in and drive gently from cold, and drive the last mile of the journey in a high gear with very little throttle.

I actually put the air con on for the last mile of the journey too as it get the water temps down to below 80 degrees, cant hurt.

Have some sympathy guys.

We enjoy our cars, but at the same time they shouldn\'t annoy everyone else.
