why are de-cats bad for engines with standard ecus? and what does the apexi pfc do when u map it to make car run fine with de cat?
as i have standard ecu and de-cat, also only mods r a trust straight through exshaust and am gonna get the power fc and ecu and wonderd how much more performace ill will get with it?
have a 92 type r
thinking of putting on a sonic sound induction kit too when i get apexi fc
Basicaly because of the extra flow from the exhaust the engine will run lean & increase the chances of detenation while on boost..... also the turbo\'s spool up that bit quicker so you are likely to get boost spikes, but the power FC can be fiddled to rectify this problem!!!!
If you strap on a power Fc on a stock car you will probably gain about 30bhp over the stock ECU, so in short: it makes your engine run correctly & you will get a decent increase in power too!! Between the exhaust, Intercooler, intake & uping the boost a little I have gaind about 80 - 90 bhp!!!
DO IT..... You wont regret it!!
Jono
right i am doing it then!! gonna get new filters and power fc
how much is a new intercooler which is not a front mount gonna cost
Take your pick mate....... V-Mount\'s are up to a grand, XS power standard mount jobies you can pick up for about 100 - 150, or you can go front mount for anything up to 500!!

Hi
I would immediately get an Apexi PFC fitted and have it mapped…I would not drive with a de cat and a standard ECU, as JONO said you will run your engine lean and frankly you are seriously increasing chances of blowing your engine, only the other day I met a new RX7 owner who fitted a de cat with out a mappable ECU â€" 3 days later he blew the engine…
Please for the sale of your RX get an Apexi fitted even before you start playing with the intake…

my view is totally different to mapping and aftermarket ecus i run one but i dont see a desperate need for just a decat.
firstly if you are modding them make sure you can measure ie get a boost gauge, if you are decatting then get a boost controller or if you have one (which is unesessary on a stock car) then use it.
as long as you do NOT over boost you are fine as there is not really much difference. one thing i will say is if you are going full staight through and unsilenced you may not be able to easily control spikes.
the stock ecu has a fuel cut so if you are running too much boost it will cut and you will feel it! this is something to avoid but just incase you are trying to set a controller etc you have that feature to help.
Apexi PFC or s Fcon motec etc etc are very useful and indeed a excelent tool but not needed if you add an air freshner so to speak :)
well apexi pfc and controler now purchaced from e bay for 350 pound
before i get it mapped i really want new free flow filters, was wlso looking at xs power intercooler but looks like u need to remove airpump for that so i dont think ill do that.
shoud i get a dump valve before ecu is mapped or will that make no diffrence i dont think it will? the filter i was looking at was blitz soniz sound for more noise what f peoples openins on them?
i have been driveing the car for 2000 miles with out the cat and on standard ecu hope i have not done damage i have fellt the boost just cut a few times on hard accelration

Hi Tez12345
I hope you do not mind me telling you all this but ..
Mate, Put up a tread â€" DO I NEED APEXI power FC or not, is it safe with out one if I have a de cat… Ask any one on here and you will see what people will respond with….a defo NO NO !!!
I am not trying to scare you mate, detonation defiantly occurs when there is not enough fuel supplied - call some of the tuners at the top of the page and ask - get a proper response.
Apexi power fc is a standalone tuneable injection computer â€" stock ecu is not TUNABLE - it does not cope with major changes like de cat and high flow filters you are after…the above mods require more fuel…

thats why i brought a pfc

..just seen your post before the last one, well done - who is going to map it for you?

jayson from super 7 autos
but thats why wondering if its worth getting filters before getting it mapped although i am thinking it def is
and whats best filters to get?
I have HKS high flow racing suction kit still sitting at home, I am going to have them on just before the mapping session, I bought it from a member on here for £180, the are worth £380.
If you are going to get a high flow filters then map the car once you have them on â€" they do require a map I have been told â€" you will save your self some dosh…
re which ones are the best - not sure really HKS, Blitz - high flow are better thou...

cheers think i am gonna get blitz sonic sound ones
for the extra flo with extra noise

You don\'t need to remove the air pump to fit a XS power IC.
True.... you don\'t need to, but being the cat isn\'t there you don\'t need it!!! it\'s just another thing to go wrong!!! When you fit the power FC mate just unbolt the air pump, lift the UIM off & get rid of the double throttle (simple job) and the AVC unit....... these are things you can remove easily and the power FC will run perfectly with out them being plugged in!!
Trust me...... do this now, you will only do it at a later date & think "why didn\'t I do that in the first place?!!!!!
Jono
just needed the air pump sorted to get it through emmisions test on mot as had to be below 3.5 and my co2 was 7.2 without air pump workin and 1.0 with it
