Hello chaps
It looks like my T04S is blown, there is too much shaft play on it.
Now do I replace like for like or with this baby
GT45 SUPER TURBO
1.05 A/R TURBINE HOUSING
COMPRESSOR HOUSING A/R .66 T4
4.17" INLET
I know this is big but being ball bearing I\'m guessing it will not affect the spool or be too laggy
The car has all the supporting mods for this turbo so what are your thoughts?
Engine is Knightsport mild port, v-mount with deep trust intercooler, power fc,larger injectors , just been serviced and plugs replaced with iridiums.
Thoughts?
Thanks
Nick
Big turbo - smallish ports + loads of lag, if you intend dragging fine street wise - hah. hth

Do you realise just how big a gt45 is you\'ll have fun fitting it in the fd engine bay. If you want to upgrade in size stick with a gt42 about half the size of a 45 but will still make the to4 look small. Theres a pic below to show the size of a gt45
Kevin
it doesnt look that big kev ;)
why not just get the to4s rebuilt?
I struggled to fit my GT42, a 45 is going to take some work although it will go.
On a side note this isn`t one of those ebay GT45`s is it. They are not GT45`s I only say this because my 42 has a 5" inlet
A legit gt45 has a 6inch filter inlet and 3inch compressor outlet.
Ben the one in the pic is a custom gt45. stock coldside with a custom hotside put together by AET turbo\'s Normanton.

Hi kev, yeah I know the one in the photo is legit. I meant the one this post is on about he says it only has a 4.17" inlet
I have this turbo for sale:D

Ok guys thanks for your input and yes it does look as if it is too big.

Simon I take it the link was for the gt40 like the look of that and it does seem more street friendly.
Bobert I was looking at your turbo the other and it would be faster spooling than my t04s but I am a little worried it might run out of puff in the higher rev range.
Got a lot to think about chaps thanks again.

Its a shame to have to tell people they haven\'t got what they paid for there must be more dodgy copies out there of late than the real items.
Anyone wanting to check up on Garrett turbos or read about how they work and produce boost this is a great site. http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/tech_center/tech_center.html (http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/tech_center/tech_center.html)
If you want to get into really heavy reading then it also explains how to read a compressor map in the later section.

Just posted the link because that is where I got my TO4S from. They sell lots of interesting tubs at very good prices. Thought it might be helpful when you are making a decision. Personally, I would always buy a trusted brand..
Yep your right Simon what a/r did you opt for and are you happy with it?
