Hello everybody /Dr. Nick
I hear the front ARB mounts are made of jelly or some kind of soft cheese... So I\'ll be swapping over my front suspension at some point this week so will take a look at the ARB mounts.
If they\'re bent already what\'s the best replacement? Or if they\'re still OK is it worth reinforceing them with something or just replacing them anyway?
Cheers all,
Mark
Dragon does an uprated version that looks very nice :D
Or get the racing beat one with the antiroll bars, makes the car so much flatter :D
Shaun
I may well just get the uprated ones... Not heard great things about racing beat front ARB\'s and I don\'t mind a bit of body roll, stiff ARB\'s are a compromise IMHO and if you can ride with stiffer springs instead you have a better setup.
Look at the Elise, regarded as one of the best handling cars out there and not an ARB in sight! And the only option is a front ARB (which was standar don the Exige) which is mostly used for easy adjustment of understeer / oversteer.
But I digress, I\'ll check out my ones and probably get the Dragon ones me thinks :D
I\'d rather run softer springs and fatter ARB than stiff springs. Elise gets away with no ARB due to low weight on the front end.
Softish springs, low ride height, decent, firm ARBs, and a damper soft in bump but hard in rebound would be what I\'m looking for....
Anyway, I was just going to say that the ARB mounts look very flimsy, and appear to be prone to cracking. There are a fair few strengthing kits from the US available as well. I don\'t think you will find them bent, but check for cracks and splits in the mounting.
I guess it\'s a different strokes for different folks thing ;) I\'ve always found stiff ARB\'s stop the suspension being independant so hit a bump with one side and it upsets the other side...
But that\'s just me, and I don\'t mind body roll too much, people seem to think it\'s the devil but with double wishbones it\'s not as much as a problem as maccy struts.
But just had the front suspension off and the ARB mounts look OK ish, but one side isn\'t looking great. I\'ll check the strengthening kits out as well, prevention rather than fix after it\'s broke!
Locally the Dragon one is very, very nice !! Do a search for it because it was posted a few months ago.
Shaun
I\'ve done a search for "dragon arb" which has only returned this thread sadly... Was it posted in Dragon\'s own area (which is now gone)?
We are currently building the new site, the products page isnt up yet, I\'ll be getting round to it soon enough though. Any product requests etc would be best to put on //www.dragworx.com as I am no longer a registered trader here.
Can\'t find the original thread !!!
Shaun
Cool, will enquire... As it really looks like I need them :(
I think this side has taken a bit of a whack from underneather at some point... The chassis is straight but the mount and the undertray are a bit mangled.
So probably better to replace the pair right?
I replaced my damaged mounts (like the pics above) with the "dragon" bar. Very nice bit of kit i must say. IIRC i posted some pics on FDUK.
Cheers Jon
Cool, found it on FD:UK :D
Looks very cool! Think I\'ll be getting myself on of them! Was the drop link bent hence the replacement? Or was it something else?

Me too! especially on a road car. And yes, the ARB mounts get bent pretty easy.
Both Mounts were bent quite bad, I think as a result of the car being jacked at the ARB mounts! In fact they were that bad they were causing the car to pull to the left.

Did you sort out the mounts. have you seen these tasty items:
http://www.neweraparts.com/Default.aspx?tabid=54&CategoryID=123&List=0&Level=a&ProductID=782
(http://www.neweraparts.com/DesktopModules/CATALooKStore/MakeThumbImage.aspx?ID=%2fPortals%2f0%2fimages%2fparts_images%2fFeed_FD3s+Front+Stabilizer+mount.jpg&PORTALID=0)
I ended up getting the Dragon brace, a very nice bit of kit and only a few quid more than those.
But it seems a bit tougher as it has some supports from top to bottom and it more substantial. Also as it\'s a bar betweek the two, in their own words, it\'s like a under chassis brace as well. Can\'t say if it\'s improoved things just as of yet as I\'ms till waiting on suspension, but I\'ll stop my garage (barn ;) ) on Friday and take some pics.
I think it was £150 and also has the little bolt for the oil cooler lines P clip.
It similar to this: http://www.fduk.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6310&highlight=anti+roll
But in stainless.
Cheers,
Mark
Sorry for the delay, finally got a couple of pics of one side of the whole mount... But awkward to fit as you have to line up both sides but ultimately worth it I think, just for peace of mind as well.
You can just see the ARB mount and the braces inside the mount in the pics, not the clearest but I thought of it when I was changing my plugs!
